Just curious about how long was most of you guys surgery

I was under for almost 3 hours using Da Vinci robotic removal of the prostate. Unfortunately there were some unrelated complications and I spent 11 days in hospital as opposed to the expected 5.

Just curious, was the length of surgery what you had been told to expect or were you surprised by how long it took?

Was told 3 to 3 1/2 when I ask him he told me he was being very thorough he removed my prostate seminal glands and 11 nythnods right side nerve I think

I cannot remember for sure. I think in the range of 2.5 to 3 hours with the Divinci Robot and he took 13 nodes. One night stay home the next evening. Like someone else said there was a lot of pain and soreness.

Mine was more than 6 hours. Very little pain afterward but some challenges on the next day with the catheter. It was hard to find a comfortable position. Two nights in the hospital.

Mine was 5 hours. Prostate was the size of a small Apple. Got all the cancer though, guess that’s all that matters.

Mine was an open prostatectomy and took just over three hours. I had a lot of bleeding during the procedure and via the catheter post operatively. I was kept in the hospital four nights.
Both the operation and the length of stay were more than I had been told to expect before surgery.

I am still not 100% but I would say in the high 90s. 19 months out and was approximately 90% by six months from the date of surgery.

I still leak a little if I wait too long to go to the restroom and sometimes at night during very sound sleep.

So a pad every night but none during the day. They consider one pad a day to be continent.

The length of surgery is not necessarily what dictates the incontinence issue. My urologist said it has to do with how big the prostate was, and how long it squeezed the urethra to inhibit the flow of urine. Plus we loose 2 sphincters with prostate removal, and that only leaves 1 to control the flow of urine. Age also plays a part in it.

Around 5 hours followed by 2 night stay due heavy drainage. I am one of the younger folks on the forum at 48. I am 6 months post op and require no pads any longer. If I over exert myself, I will have leakage but only a few drops.

My larger issue has been ED despite nerve sparing surgery. Pills and vacuum pump are of no help. Next step is to try injections.

My surgery took about 2 hours. The surgery started 7:30 AM and I was discharged from the hospital the same day at 3:30 PM. I don't believe time in surgery has any bearing on length of time being incontinent. I was operated on 1/4/2021 and still wear one mini pad per day. I'm about 98% back to being continent.

My Robotic surgery on July 14, 2021 took 4-5 hours and my surgeon described it as "difficult". He removed the prostate (w/internal sphincter), the seminal verticals, and 6 lymph nodes. I was in the hospital 11 days with all sorts of "issues" (my surgeon wouldn't call them complications) and said they were more like possible side effects. These included kidney function, gas retention, bowel disfunction, and super high blood pressure due to pain, and even a tube down my nose into my stomach to relieve pressure there, all of these pretty much at the same time, no bueno! I got to see every specialist doctor in the hospital and had a ton of imaging done. To top it all off they gave me Hydromorphone for the pain and since I'm allergic to Morphine my back broke out in a rash. I finally got out of the hospital with a Foley Catheter and due to some internal issues I had to have that for 11 weeks. To say all of that was rough is an understatement. At least after I got out of the hospital there really wasn't any pain. The really good news is at the end of November my urinary control magically went from near zero to nearly 95%, OK great! Well that is until my 39 radiation treatments. Now 8 weeks post treatments my urinary function is pretty good but I need to use 1-2 guard pads a day. Bowel function was also affected by the radiation but that is slowly returning to normal, back to about 85% now. Right now my PSA is undetectable so even though it was a tough year I'm doing fine right now and hoping it stays that way.

Mine was about three hours on a two-for. Robotic surgery for the prostate and a hernia repair with an overnight stay. Was discharged the next afternoon.

@Jdhoffm same here friend. Tried the injection last week. Worked like magic. And worked and worked and worked. About two hours later I went back to the Dr. for the antidote. Painful but the Dr . seemed pleased and said that was why there is a trial run. Anyway reducing the dosage and changing formulation to bimix instead of Trimix.

Haven’t received the prescription yet and was advised by the Dr to wait until he returns from vacation.

There is hope. And glad you are doing well otherwise.
