Looking to Talk to Other Lifelong Wetters

Hi Jeff, I am 65m and I’ve had incontinence and Bedwetting a long time. I grew up a bedwetter didn’t stop till I was 16 or 17. Back then we didn’t have disposable diapers or pull-ups. And doctors and parents dealt with bedwetting much differently than today. The doctors back then kept telling us I grow out of it. Well I did but much later than expected. I got in trouble a lot and I had to wear diapers (cloth& plastic pants) at night and when we traveled. I also had problems during the daytime. When at home if I wet my pants, I’d be put in a diaper and had to sit in living room in a diaper and plastic pants. Almost everyone knew I’d wet myself. At school, I’d have to go to the school nurse and change clothes my parents brought to school for me. If I wet more than once, I’d be sent home. I’d end up in a diaper when I got home. It was tough back then because I got teased a lot. I had a good friend who had the same problem I did, so I could spend the night at his house. We were both diapered so it wasn’t a big deal. His sister was a bed wetter too. She was much younger than us but it helped.
When I got to be in my mid 39’s I had back surgery and that started my incontinence again. I had 4 more back surgeries over the years. The last one destroyed my the nerves between my spine and bladder. I now wear diapers 24/7. I had a good life dispute my problems. I’ve had a great career and a great marriage.
I hope things haven’t been too based for you either. Let me know a little about you and your story.

Hi Chris. Thanks for reaching out. It was the same way with me growing up and my mom also diapered me too

I was a bedwetter as a child and teenager thru most of high school. I was made fun of by my Dad and brother every time I wet the bed. I also wet my pants at school but hide it the best I could and wet my pants on a trip before as a child to. I'm so glad every though I have incontinence issues that are causing me to wake up in a soaked diaper every morning and wear during the day, there so many different stories on here from guys and gals that are my age and I am hoping to get friends from sharing my story and maybe meet some one of these days

Hello Jdrake, it’s nice to hear from you. Bedwetting is a horrible thing to deal with both at home and in public. Kids can really be cruel. Your story has many of the under-pinning as many of us here. How old are you and where do you come from? We appreciate you sharing your stories with us.

Hello there
I’m 63 and wet the bed as a child and into my early teens. I was the eldest of four siblings, all of whom were dry before me. The youngest being 9 years younger than me. Up to age 6 I would be changed into a terry nappy and waterproof pants by our nanny after bath time even if I was staying up to play before bed. I was then dry for 5 years but started to wet the bed again when I was away at Boarding school. It was a very traditional small all boys school. There were quite a few boys who still wet the bed and we had to report to the matron before bed time where we had to change into terry nappy pants and waterproof pants. Plus of course the inevitable crinkly waterproof sheet on the bed! I continued to wet the bed until I was 14 and when back at home my youngest sibling’s nanny would make sure I was wearing a nappy and plastic pants to bed. She never made a big deal about it but it was a bit humiliating to be changed into a nappy either on the bathroom floor or on my bed. Often it would be a few hours before bedtime too and so again I could be watching TV with my older siblings and I’d be in a nappy. When I was 26 I fractured my neck in two places and suffered nerve damage that led to me starting to wet the bed again. That’s when I was referred to various specialists and also the local NHS incontinence nurse specialist. To start with some of the meds worked especially DDAVP, which was bit of a godsend as I was in the Army but after a few years they stopped working and I also started to have issues with the DDAVP causing daytime problems so I stopped taking it. I tried catheters and leg bags but constantly got UTIs and so on the advice of the incontinence nurse I started wearing adult nappies at night. Unfortunately a subsequent spinal injury and multiple issues and operations left me totally urinary incontinent and so I now wear nappies 24/7 to manage it. I wear the Tena Slip Maxi Active Fit plastic backed nappies and they give me the confidence to lead a near normal and active life. I’ve been married for 30 years to an amazing lady and we have three now grown up boys. I told her about my bladder problems and that I wore nappies the first time I met her but as we had been introduced by Army friends she knew I had been injured, so wasn’t too shocked by it. To be frank I think a nappy was far preferable to a wet bed! Anyway Chris just know you are not alone in dealing with this. All the best.
