My son is 15 years old and he continues to wet the bed every night and I don’t know what to do. His doctor has also told me that by age 17, he’ll likely grow out of it, that’s good to know, but how do I make him get dry before he turns 17?

He also said that bedwetting in people 17 and over warrants a medical evaluation to figure out the underlying cause. Do I buy depends or something for him so his sheets are not always soaked?

I wet the bed and wear prefold style pin-on cloth diapers covered with plastic pants. I buy them from All Together Enterprises also known as Adulclothdiaper.com. I wear the Leakmaster Deluxe 7 mil plastic pants with enclosed elastic which prevents leaks. I also wear the Euroflex high back plastic pants with enclosed elastic which I special ordered from L.L. Medico. I use liners inside my cloth diapers (also purchased from Adultclothdiaper.com) and have the bed covered with the Dry Defender quilted underpad. If you go the disposable route the Better Dry diaper with tapes has a good reputation for managing bedwetting. I've tried the Better Dry and sometimes they leaked. In general I find that prefold style pin-on cloth diapers covered with a pair of plastic pants do the best job of protecting the bed. Your son may be able to fit into the smallest size of Leakmaster Deluxe plastic pants.Hope that helps.

Don’t put any pressure on him allow him to navigate the journey in a supportive environment teenage years are hard enough. As long as he knows you are there for him will help so much. If it is of any comfort I became an incontinent teenage age boy of 13.

You cannot force him to stop letting the bed. This is not something you’re doing wrong is something your 15-year-old son. Bed wetting is not as uncommon as you think and most do grow out of it at their own time. Doctors can give you an estimated Age, but it’s just an estimate everyone’s different. And even if he doesn’t grow out of it, this is not the end of the world. He is going to live a productive, happy life regardless. He’s just gonna have to learn to manage this condition. I have been a bed wetting since I was a child. I am a grown adult still wetting the to bed. I wear diapers every night. I have a productive life. I married with a family with love and support in my life. Don’t create negativity embarrassment or shame about your son‘s condition. You only make it worse and you’ll bring about damaging his self-esteem. Neither is what you wanna do. And your doctor is wrong by saying wait till age 17 to seek medical. Seek medical examination now just to ensure that there’s no physical issues going on that is serious. Bed wetting is a result of various physical mental emotional developmental reasons. All you can do is just show love and support. It’s a good idea to wear protection like a pull-up or a diaper so that he can get peaceful, restful sleep and wake up to a dry bed. Good luck with it.

As a child I wet the bed and was in nappies at night until I was six. I was then dry for five years and started to wet the bed again aged 11. Our nanny thought it best that I went back to wearing nappies at night again rather than having a wet bed. I was still in nappies at night aged 14. Back then it was terry nappies and waterproof pants. No disposables. I hated having a wet bed so I didn’t mind wearing nappies although I would be changed after evening bath time and that would mean that I was in a nappy when still up before bed. I was also the oldest of four siblings all of whom were dry before me. I was never made fun of or made to feel embarrassed. Wearing a nappy meant I slept better and did not lead to lots of washing so probably better for our nanny too. I was then dry for 12 years until a spinal injury and it started all over again aged 26. I’ve worn nappies ever since to manage my incontinence and now they are just a piece of everyday clothing that allows me to get on with life.
