New Member - Bed Pad Advice

@Maymay941 that's an interesting observation. I did see a urologist several years ago and was not advised to stop wearing diapers. Of course, that could have been a misstep from my Urologist. I am wondering how that may affected my bladder problems and bedwetting.

Do you have any articles on that? I am not sure it would help now, but I would like to read a little more.

I picked this idea up from a thread in the forum. Someone had some knowledge and those of us with ordinary (not injury or illness related nocturia) noted this was true for us. Ive seen the concept that for psychological bedwetting diapers seem to increase nightly events.
Protecting the bed from the occasional wet night seems to be a solution that works without a pattern of nightly incontinence forming

Thanks for the response. I will have to think about this. I am also overdue for a urologist visit. Looks like it may be a few months before I can make it on.

That sure is a fine line. How do you have just enough protection without becoming over reliant and causing other problems?

Yeah I agree, it’s interesting but I’m glad you brought it up because I certainly don’t want to become dependent if I don’t have to. I usually have an idea when my anxiety is really bad so I’ve usually been wearing pull-ups only on those nights. I did switch to diapers now and am planning on wearing nightly until my anxiety has calmed back down from this crazy situation the world is in (which I’m hoping is soon). There are nights where I wear just in case and don’t wet so I’m thinking my mind hasn’t been tricked yet.
It is a fine line, because I want to get good sleep and not do laundry constantly and pull-ups/diapers has helped with that greatly.

Hey @eliott29 First welcome to the site and glad to hear you are getting good support and information. I am a lot like you, occasionally bedwetter. While my bedwetting has not increased (yet 🤞🏽)I totally get the anxiety as a trigger for an increase. For me during times of stress I do tend to wet the bed more frequently. Finals week in college was pee pee city every morning for me 🤣. So I get it.

As to your question on bed protection. I don't toss and turn but do roll from side to side so keeping the waterproof bed pad in place is a must. For me I use a 34"x72" reusable waterproof bed pad that I got on Amazon. It's like just under $30. I've had mine since 2017 and it still protects the bed when I do have those occasional wet nights. It is comfortable to sleep on, does not crinkle (if that is a concern) and is unnoticeable when the bed is made up so anyone looking at your bed can't tell there is bedwetter protection on it. On those 'wet nights' it absorbs good and when I wake up I don't feel soaked just damp if that makes sense. Now I am not a heavy wetter, but still back when I was using a plastic sheet on the bed I feel cold and wet after a wetting. Look for RMS Store on Amazon. they have different sizes but I really like the large one I got. Since it is long I don't feel like I am sleeping on a bedwetter's pad but just a quilted underpad.

Hope things settle down for you and stay in touch. We are here to help.
