Overwhelming

I am a mother of two, educator (on my feet all day, few breaks), outdoorsy active type, and only 46. My Urgency and sharp pain associated with these urges has progressed to the point of affecting my job. I should also say that this strikes when I experience temperature changes, and standing up as well. It is like I've lost my mind and my body. I always had a twitchy system, but in the last two ears, it's like I have no system at all.

See a urogynecologist (not a urologist) and discuss your symptoms and treatment options. You will probably be given a cystoscopy to diagnose your ailments and you can then work out a treatment plan with your physician.

I did that. Tried all the drugs, nothing worked. Only suggestion was the sling, but my symptoms are mixed, and I seem to have constant, sharp, urges that I lose control with. I backed out at the last minute as I was constantly just walking down the hallway and overwhelmed with a bladder spasm. At this point, I’m Going through several pads a day and they are not dependable. Anything can trigger this, standing, temperature change, just a thinking about where the next bathroom might be. It won’t pass until some urine is released. And, it will often get overwhelming as I near the toilet. I fell yesterday trying to find a toilet fast in a place I wasn’t familiar with.

Strangely, this is at least partly genetic. My mother always had “dishwashing disease,” and my middle school daughter has always had this overwhelming urgent bladder.

Have you tried a Chiropractor? Find one that does gentle adjustment, some times called the Thomson Technique.

You need to see all the appropriate doctors. Work Out a treatment plan. I am an educator too. So I can relate in that it’s scary and nerve wracking. That only makes symptoms worse too. I teach high school and it took about a year to get a good system of medications for pain, yoga, exercise, and a little counseling to get everything settled. Massage therapy worked well for me. I have a bad spine injury so the massaging help with pain and calming. Don’t do anything without consulting a doctor though. Also consider talking to someone counseling wise. It made my life so much better. If not then a friend or family members that you can unload on.

I've done the urogynocologist, all the meds, my PCP doesn't feel like much works. Very frustrating. I do tons of yoga, am fit, eat well, cut out caffeine, and feel like I'm beginning to totally give up on this idea of having it under control.

I am not advocating you give up, but certainly until a better route is found, managing the symptoms, which you appear to be doing (fairly well at that)is your best option. Not to state the obvious, but it's something a lot of us are up against, and if I can encourage you to keep on keeping on, your situation may well be resolved in due course. IMO, you are dealing with a complex case; to me, that suggests the specialists have more to work with. I realize it may take a bit longer to untangle those complexities, but that can be a hidden blessing, though perhaps for someone else. Here's what I mean- what is learned in your case may help someone else, someone who doesn't have your emotional and mental strength. Conversely, it may be you who benefits from what is learned in another's situation. My own experience with this is that wearing protection means I can do pretty well any activity I want to. (I haven't gotten past my reticence to visit other people's homes, though, such as when I have a Bible study- if I have problems on the way over, I turn around and go home. I guess I'd rather err on the side of caution. So, call me chicken...)I hope you will keep us apprised of your progress and I wish you well.

Have you tried pelvic floor strengthening exercises with a physical therapist? I have been doing these exercises for 4 weeks and they help. Longer term, I also take one of the overactive bladder meds, Trospium ER. It clearly helps too. I'm down to urinating 10 times per day, usually with full bladder emptying, and not getting up more than 3 times per night. I rarely have any leakage, but wear a small pad just in case.

I have tried many treatments for my severe overactive bladder from medications, botox injections, tibial stimulation, and pelvic exercises. My doctor suggested Stem therapy of which I refused because it had to be redone every 7 years. I am already 72 years old.

I had recently developed painful SPASMS
and was becoming depressed. My monthly diaper pullups was $100+. As a last result he prescribed Mybertriq along with U-tira C tablets to release spasms. To my surprise within 3 weeks I was able to control when I would urinate and no leakage at night. The only problem was that the urine is blue. I am so happy with these results and I have no more spasms. Thank God.

It seems like just peeing in a diaper might be the best option here. And if not... maybe talk to a physical therapist in this subject. Easier said than done.

May I ask if this is a urinary or bowel urgency issue? There are several things to try for both to help narrow it down. I have been through many issues. Happy to help if ya want. 🕵

Try asking Dr for the medicine that helps numb the urinary tract. This can help know if it's irritation in the uriters or urethra. There is also meds to help stop bladder spasms. If your having some bowel spasms and pain with urinary, have your low back checked out for nerve impingment.my back nerves cause pain when I need to have a BM . I will do some research and try to help more. I'm no expert. Just trying to help from my own experiences. Take care

Also be sure that you are seeing a urogynocologist that offers "3rd line treatments" - these are the treatments for the folks that haven't done well with or don't want drugs. This includes Botox, tibial nerve stim and sacral nerve stim. This group of physicians has the most experience with incontinence that hasn't been improved by other approaches. Good luck.
