Chafing on my inner thighs where they run against the crotch of a pad or brief is a big problem for me, running or not. Talc or Bodyglide seem to help the most for me. I've tried using things like petroleum jelly, but they tend not to be slippery enough to prevent the problem, or they break down the adhesive so that the absorbent pad starts to come apart.
If I can get by with lighter protection for a while, many pull-ups have a narrower crotch that helps offset their more abrasive material and helps keep them from chafing me. Plus they're cheap. I can't get away with wearing them far from the house, but for a run (and especially on a treadmill) they work ok.
I've been able to finally get back to running in the past couple of months. I've been building up distance very slowly - I'm at six or seven weeks and only up to 3/4 mile, but I want to give my muscles and joints (especially my knees) time to build up strength before I load then up to much. It's working so far, with no knee or hip pain, and I can already see the improvements in my legs and abs. My goal is 5k 3-4 times a week, with some intervals and/or sprints on the off days. Eventually I'd like to be able to do sprints with a 60 lb rucksack, so that I can go learn to fly paramotors!
