In the hospital

So I had an aide for maybe a half hour. She was allergic to the cat so had to leave. The agency KNOWS I have a cat so I don’t know why they don’t say it when they are posting my case. She cleaned the bathroom a bit and took out some of the trash but that’s it. I won’t have anyone else again until next week. Sigh. I have a friend coming over tonight to keep me company. So I’m looking forward to that. My meds came. Took my first antibiotic and some pain meds. All is well

Grrrrr on the aide. I have aides as well, although consistent unless my wonderful person is out or on vacation. I have had them send aides who can’t handle animals. I have two dogs right now and two cats and do rescue, so God only knows what else there may be.

The week after I broke my leg and then had a heart ablation, my aide was on vacation. Because of the hospitalization overnight for the ablation and a doctor appt on the days my aide usually comes, I didn’t have any help that week at all. It’s just about back to normal and my aide is on vacation next week too. God knows she deserves it, but it really messes with stuff.

I hate having a sub because they usually can’t stay the entire time I usually get, and they require so much attention just to get stuff done - not their fault, but they are walking in cold. Where’s the laundry room? Where’s the bathroom, etc. I have to prioritize what gets done. Add to that, the concerns of Covid resurfacing. Not looking forward to it.

EJ, I hope the agency gets it together for you. Since the aide couldn’t stay, can they send someone else for the remainder of the week’s hours? It was their error…

Had a visiting nurse/aid when recovering from surgery and had a port we had to use for IV antibiotics. We, not the nurse. She set it up, made sure we understood what and how, we wrote it down (with her help). She checked in by phone every couple of days, came out twice, immediately, to "repair" the port. We never had to deal with a sub, on phone or at home. Personnaly, we thought she did great, but it was only 6 weeks.
We had checked on her company's rating (and others) with us patients, but had no idea on individual nurses.
I've been through PT when I never got the same therapist twice in row & they hadn't read my file until they were walking over to me. Needless to say, switched providers, never went back, and had no sympathy when they had to close.
It is hard to believe what some of our forum members go through. Please be sure to rate the companies, so others have something to go on, even if it's just a warning.
Darn it, justej! It makes me mad, what you are going through. Where is the moral commitment any health care worker is supposed to have?!?

Hi EJ. I agree with @LeeC above. The agency should send someone over to make up for the time the cat-allergic aide couldn't stay. Jsut a half-hour is not sufficient. After all, they should have alerted that aide about your cat and instead selected someone who isn't bothered by cats. So it's the agency's bad! And they owe you, so if you can tell the agency that aide was unable to provide the services that you need. After all it's your money and you deserve to get every cents' worth! I hope you get a decent aide soon!

Hey EJ,
Glad to hear you’re home! I hate hospitals to the point I always try to get the earliest surgery & 9/10 times they’ll send me home same night even after my latest spine surgeries! No rest in the hospital, and who knows what that kitty will get into. I was awakened at 3:am the other night because my wife or I left a platter on “her” counter. She decided she didn’t like it and sent it flying across the kitchen! Between her & my Husky they go nuts when Dads not around, “There’s no place like Home”! Feel better
