Depend Night Defense

Depend has mounted a rather aggressive ad campaign for their Night Defense product. Has anyone tried these? I assume they are not significantly better than any of the other Depend products, but I give them credit for running ads that show very ordinary-looking people wearing the product. I feel like this goes a long ways toward normalizing the topic of urinary incontinence generally, and bedwetting specifically, removing some of the shame from these conditions. The short video they have demonstrating the absorption looks good but, of course, it is not being worn during the wetting, and so it's much easier for the product to absorb fluid. Anyway, just thought I'd see what anyone else may have experienced.

This is the first product I tried for nighttime incontinence and for me, they leaked fairly quickly. Would be ok for light nighttime or daytime urge/stress incontinence maybe. Don’t think about letting a full bladder go in them.
Just my 2 cents.
On another note, I have not seen the ads but can appreciate anything companies do to remove the stigma.

I have tried it and I will leak. I think I would be ok for lite use but fit me it did not work I have very little control over my bladder. I’m in diapers thy work very good for me.

FOR THE MALE SIDE OF NIGHT DEFENSE, I stand by the use of external catheters with a drain tube and leg bag. It's safest if applied in the evening an hour or two before going to bed. This adds a bit of time safety. The glue used on external catheters (plus the added "skin prep") holds best for 10-12 hours.

TURNING OVER IN BED OR GETTING UP TO EMPTY THE BLADDER stresses the glued connection and begins a "subtle weakening" toward breaking the seal. Standing up opens the bottom gate of the bladder so that the accumulated urine in the bladder is pressured downward into the urethra. THE SEAL is the critical point in keeping dry.

Sooner or later, this process will break the seal that holds the external catheter in place. The process varies from one person to another and from one day to another day for the same person. A good 24-hour period is when you have to apply a bit of solvent to dissolve the seal to get the external catheter off. As long as the glue/skin-prep holds, YOU ARE DRY.

THE STRONG SEAL WORKS AS WELL AS A CLAMP AS LONG AS IT WORKS. If the seal breaks, while you are lying down, apply a clamp (by feeling only). DO NOT SIT UP until the clamp is securely in place. With all these precautions, I still believe it is the driest and most secure way of keeping dry at night. I've searched the shelves at Walmart, read, and tried everything I could find. If you have a better idea that works for you, go for it!

I haven't used the Night Defense but as btmsupnmd and ltguy2928 say up above I'm all for a company like Depend for mounting ad campaigns aimed at destigmatizing incontinence and bedwetting.
Those are things that can happen to anyone at any time. No one is immune from that and no one should say "that only happens to someone else." 'Cuz guess what.............?
And using just plain ol' regular people wearing the products in the advertising really helps the cause, I think.

If you release a bladder full of urine while sleeping, my experience indicates that a high-capacity tape-on diaper is required to prevent leaks. For the past couple of years, I've been using the Northshore Megamax diaper at night. Whatever position I'm in, that product almost always absorbs it all.

As a woman I tried it last night but will revert to Food lion store brand cheaper and much more effective. The woman's night defense leaked badly for me

I have used them and they work great during the day and pretty good at night for me but more likely to leak than the tape on depend I use at night. I havent purchased them recently due to the cost of them and I am able to use assurance or store brand during the day for the last few years.

@Maymay941 totally agree on the nighttime defense form depends when I could wear pull-ups thy never worked for me. The always ones worked very well

I will try Always. As a woman I tried mega msx and better dry but it felt like a lake didn't fit close.
I have to live with some expectations for leakage and use disposable bed pads on a cloth bed pad

I have tried a variety of Depend products over the years, but the 6-tab diapers they used to make not the current ones I found to be close to meeting my needs I have not found any Depend products that really meet my needs and I haven't found any pull-up absorbent enough for my heavy wetting issues

@DPCARE the 6 tab depend is ok but find myself changing more often in them. I wear better dry and XP5000 diaper work good

the old ones were better especially right about the time they transitioned from the ugly mint green to white the current ones don't even come in a larger size

@btmsupnmd - I use the Depends night time pull ups day and night,
because I can't always get to the bathroom in time. At night they aren't great as I tend to be a side sleeper, and they will leak. I have 3 layers of Medline pads on our bed. If I can't scramble out of bed fast enough to get to the pot in time.- if I happen to void at night even when hardly drinking during the day. - the Depends will be full, the first pad could be wet, the second will have damp spots, the 3rd pad will be dry. We have a California king double high water bed, so we don't have to worry about the mattress. Along with everything else Depends has gone up in price and we are on a fixed income. I do take the NOW brand of Pumpkin seed oil 1000mg. 2 in the morning and 2 at night. They do seem to help, but it takes 4 to 6 weeks for some people to see improvement. Though they do help, I still have to wear the pull ups. Like others, though I have not seen the ads, I am glad to see that they put it out there. - Pam

Any disposables are not good for me overnight. I’m a multi wetter at night and even with thick layered cloth diapers with good fitting plastic pants I will usually soak them completely. A couple nights a week I also get my sheets somewhat wet so keeping a good plastic mattress protector over the mattress is essential.
Quality disposables work fine during the day.

Xp5000 and better dry are my go to choices now. These come from xp medical.
I’ve tried north shore mega max but maybe the fit isn’t suited for a thin guy like me as I had leak problems during the day even when the diaper was only 1/2 saturated.
I used Abena for many years and they are still ok but prefer the first two I mentioned.

Didn’t work for me when I tried them due to running out of my normal wearable stuff back in 2019. I never trust anything made by depends for any situation where I am not sitting on a bed pad. The night defense advertised 16oz of capacity that’s less then what my normal output is. So even a leak requires getting up and changing. Also, who ever designed them must think that all guy sleep on their stomach because the absorbing padding stopped at the start of my butt. There’s nothing there to stop someone like me from leaking out the back of the product. I have been using BetterBry for years now and I am still amazed at how well they work.

I am in a group that does care for elderly and apparently depends give off a strong smell unused that affects some people and animals!
