Cleaning up in morning after bedwetting accident

Hi everyone,

I wet the bed every night. I wear pin-on style prefold cloth diapers covered with plastic pants. I use Aquaphor to prevent diaper rash. My question is this. I don't like to take showers in the morning - is it okay just to use a perineal cleanser and wipes to clean up instead of showering? Are there any other products in addition to (or instead of these products) that you'd recommend?

Hello there,

I wear plastic/fabric tape on diapers every night. Even nights that I have accidents on, I use wipes to clean everything and then just add fresh powder before putting on a dry diaper/pull up in the morning. Ive yet to experience any negative effects or rash, or any nasty smells. Granted I only have bladder incontinence, if I had bowel incontinence I'd probably shower every morning though.

I only shower, if my urine happens to be exceptionally storng (being dehydrated) or if my skin already had a rash.

Hope this helps, good luck.

I’m the opposite. I wet every night and shower every morning. During the day I use special continence wipes that have a cleanser and barrier lotion in them.

Chux (disposable bed pads) and a reusable bed pad are lifesavers for me. I am always sitting on one in bed. My insurance only covers the cheap ones but it’s worth it to get the better ones. Northshore ones are the best in my opinion. I usually don’t need them but if I don’t have one under me it’s inevitable something will leak. They are also super helpful to clean up bowel stuff. If I do get wet usually using wipes will do. But for bowel stuff I always do everything in my power to get myself in the shower. My bathroom is not accessible so getting in the shower is extremely hard. But I don’t feel clean at all if I don’t shower after bowel stuff. I’m finally supposed to be moving soon so showering is gonna be way easier. My new place is fully accessible and the shower is roll in. I can’t wait!

I use the SPC quilted disposable bed pads 30x36 when caring for my husband who has incontinence and dementia. It's been a lifesaver for me because I can finally sleep through the night without changing the bed sheets. The pad is sooo absorbent -- it doesn't leak or soak the bed. All I have to do in the morning is replace the wet bed pad and throw it in the trash. Thank the Lord he hasn't experienced any bed sores because the bed pad soaks all the urine. It doesn't clump up or rip like the other brands I've tried. And I've tried them ALL - Depends, Attends, McKesson. The San Pablo Commercial (SPC) brand is the best when it comes to bed pads.

Usually it’s just taking of my soaked diaper. One or two mornings a week I wake up with a little or lot wet sheets. The plastic mattress cover does its job and usually I’ll just let the sheets dry under my ceiling fan. Normally when the sheets get wet a third time I’ll change sheets. This pattern started when I was in my preteen days when my mom had no trouble with me sleeping on previous nights wet/dried sheets from leaky over drenched diapers. I guess I also grew accustomed to my room pretty much always had that bedwetter scent. Biggest reason I never wanted friends in my room. Anybody sitting down on my bed got to hear the loud crinkle of my plastic mattress cover under my sheets.
One day I was going to a formula race and forgot to set my alarm since I was being picked up at 7:30am. My mom, without thinking told my friend to go upstairs and wake me up. He did and there I was asleep in my thick pin on soaked overnight diaper. I was totally exposed and mortified. Later at the race my friend asked me how long I had been wearing diapers to bed. I think I was 11 or 12. I told him I always had to and he thought it was funny. I kind of laughed along with him and it wasn’t as big and deal I thought it would be if a friend found out. I did ask him to not tell anybody about it and he said he wouldn’t. I don’t think he ever did but it did allowed me to have him do sleepovers at my house, and even his a couple of times. I did tell my mom how mad the whole thing made me feel and she was sorry and just didn’t think it would be a problem. Anyway my mom talked to my friends mom before I spent the night and she was just great bout it. She even said to me John was wetting his bed until 9! She also said I didn’t need to tell John she told me that. I kind of understood why John was really pretty cool about it. OF course the upside was we could do sleepovers.
