UTI advice

Hi guys, I’ve just had another round of bladder Botox injections last week and already have a UTI. I think I will try and ride this one out as I don’t want to go to doctors again for antibiotics, I just don’t want to take them too often in case they don’t work when I really need them. What are your thoughts on this, I’m sure symptoms will go away given time it will perhaps just take a bit longer to clear.

Hey.... don't!

I tried that a couple of years ago and the infection grew and spread to my testicles causing occulitis. I could hardly walk with 2 satsumas between my legs and was in hospital for a week. So based on my experience, get on to your GP ASAP.

It's so not fair you got yours before me!!!!

:)

@Col2138 from my own experience I wouldn't recommend this. I would get some help straight away, cheers Phil

Yeah don't.. I have been to the hospital enough times to see what happens when you play around with a UTI.. you can get so sick that you act crazy.. like psych ward crazy and until they figure out what it is that is how you will be treated.. the one guy was 40's and was so messed up he didn't remember his own wife.. not kidding he was in the next room from me. The infection is can even kill you so don't play around.

That's not how antibiotic resistance works. Taking antibiotics now doesn't risk them not working later.

The problem with antibiotic resistance is that, when lots of people take them and either don't finish the course or don't need them in the first place, it can lead to bacteria that survived the antibiotic for a while surviving and thriving. When this happens over many different people, it eventually can lead to a new strain of bacteria that isn't affected by that antibiotic. It's not something that happens in an individual - is something that requires a lot of different people.

So get to your doctor and get treated! There's no reason to suffer through an untreated UTI.

Do not wait. A UTI caused permanent kidney damage in my grandmother which contributed to her dying of renal failure. And next time you get Botox, ask for an antibiotic prescription when you’re at the urologist, to prevent an infection. That’s what my urologist does and I’ve never had a UTI after Botox. He also has me come back in three days after Botox to look at my pee in his microscope to test for bacteria (included in the cost of the Botox injections). I’m baffled that all urologists don’t do that.

And ThatFLguy is correct; UTIs can mess with your mental status and dramatically muddle your thinking. If you have a UTI, there’s no way your body can magically cure it. It’s serious bacteria(s) that circulates throughout your body. You must have antibiotics.

Hi @Col2138, Please, please, please! See your doctor ASAP, if not sooner! If you wait for your symptoms to go away on their own permanent damage could very likely be the result. So don't worry about antibiotics not working when you really need them. This time you do need to see someone post haste! A bladder infection could travel into the kidneys and that would be much, much harder to cure.
Related to what FLGuy told us above, a good friend of mine who lives in the Shenandoah Valley had a prostate infection and he ended up in the hospital where he was really thrashing about and acting violent. I know that's the last thing you'd think if you ever met him, Definitely a non-violent person. I was really flummoxed when he told me about that. But these infections can do strange things, so please Col2138 take this most seriously and get treatment! I can't make it any plainer than that!
