Total incontinence and hopeful for help!

Hello,
This is my first post on any blog. Trying to research for my father. Little history...had radical prostatectomy years ago and actually had only very mild symptoms of incontinence until recent. Had some radiation therapy after and since nothing until 3 yrs ago when he had hematuria and found out had a small benign tumor as a result of radiation. Had to have removed in order to get path report. Since then, has had total incontinence. Had tried some pharmacological meds but stopped working after a while. Myrbetrig, oxybuyinin, etc. Tried penile clamp, no luck. Pads are filling constantly. Has also tried Kegels, worked on and off. He's not willing to try surgical options as he has had bad experiences with too many in the past and none are a guarantee. Any suggestions, hopes, trials? Desperate to find him some help. He's an active guy and I see it really has him down. Thanks for reading!

Heavy premium diapers. Abena level 4...northshore supreme...seni quatro...confidry 24/7 are your best bets. Xpmedical dot com has good prices and excellent service.

They make collection bags for men that may work for an active person. More or less a condom with a tube that drains to a small bag strapped to the leg. It sounds as if he has tried most other options short of surgery. Or he could go with diapers all the time but he may have a hard time adjusting to that but it is a suitable way to deal with the problem, and he could still be active and discreet.

I have had same issues . Confidry 24/7 at night with Gary's pants outside. Daytime north shore pull-up with extra pad inside and then depends with Gary pads. I am 69 and have had these issues after radical prostectomy and 38 radiation treatments.

He should see a continence nurse, they have all the knowledge on these issues. The external catheter system may be his best option, discreet, and he can stay dry and active.

How does one go about finding a continence nurse?

@Vasilikipapa

'continence nurse' is probably more of a UK term. I've never heard of one here in the USA... For me, it's been urologists or neurologists, etc. Maybe we have them...but I've never heard them mentioned in this country.

This is a close as I can find:

I see that you are in the USA, and your doctor would know or give you a referral. I'd say it will be a nurse (male or female) who is allied with a urologist and who specializes in the. care of issues relating to incontinence.

We have them in Canada, but not everywhere. They specialize in all things to do with incon issues, from Ostomies to catheters, so it is good to get the knowledge they have been trained with. Many Urologists deal with the medical side of it, but don't really know products all that well, and most hate diaper useage!

The VA where I live has an incontinence nurse. She works in the women's health clinic. Not sure where, who, or if there is one for the men.

Yeah good luck getting good info as a man. Men are incredibly underserved in this area. Almost everything is geared towards women. I think men underreport incontinence to their doctors so until recently it's been thought of as mostly a women's issue. Even this website, as great a resource as it is, has wildly inaccurate and outdated info for men.

One days waste for toral bowel and bladder voiding, get ready to find a place to dispose of 15 pounds of used briefs

Yeah good point that some medical practitioners are only treating women's incontinence. The field of urogynecology excludes treating men and often seem to practice with signage and logos in women's health. Surely there are urogenital specialists for men. Urology is a broader term treating both men and women.
