New to bladder issues

I am so glad I found this forum. I had some issues as a child but mostly from a small bladder. My parents couldn’t pass an exit while on a road trip. Now I’m in my early 50’s and suddenly started wetting the bed. Went to the Dr. and we decided to give it a few weeks after talking it over. The stress during that time was crazy. I was peeing the bed 3-4 nights a week and leaking through everything. Can’t find the real thick diapers in stores so I had to order online. I ordered too small twice and got very frustrated. All my thoughts were consumed by my problem. I was feeling pretty embarrassed or shameful that as soon as I got home from work I wanted to put a diaper on to reduce my anxiety. My wife suggested wearing a brief to work and honestly, it has really helped. Nobody can tell and I have had a couple daytime accidents since my Dr. put me on an over active bladder medication. Hopefully that subsides after a few days. My wife has been great and my Dr. has really tried to assure me we will get through this. I never thought about how stressful this problem could be. Also, on the love life side of things, it’s hard to want to initiate intimacy when I don’t feel so sexy wrapped up in a diaper. On a lighter note, I went bowling a few nights ago while wearing a brief. I just kept thinking about the Depends add that keeps popping up on my feeds with a guy bowling.

I started wetting the bed at 60 and I wear a diaper to bed. I’m not embarrassed or shameful because it’s part of aging. Meds didn’t work for me. I currently use depends because I don’t wet much. The company “In Control”makes a very thick diaper the holds 12000 ml and works well when I need it. Accept your condition and keep living life. Stay popsicle and the people on this forum are very honest, caring and helpful. Keep me informed of your situation as I can share more.

I appreciate your feedback. I’m a week into wearing depends style protection daily and it has been so calming. It has been great to find this community of people dealing with similar issues.

Depends Night Defense can hold at least 600 ml. I was using Real Fit at night until I woke up with urine on the sheets and mattress. I have been using a sheet protector with Night Defense for several weeks now and it is dry. It's so weird waking up and feel like your carrying an anvil between your legs to the bathroom.Urine also drips out from my penis and then I go normally. As I posted before I'm delaying the inevitable. I need a cystoscopy followed by some type of surgery. If I can be fixed I wonder if I will get the urgency again to wake up from sleep and use the bathroom. Of course if the surgery solves my BPH then I wouldn't have to wake up because my body will be able to retain urine through the night.

Can't use pads during the day anymore. Using Real Fit. I hope it doesn't get so soaked that it leaks urine from the sides like it did when I slept. So far it seems sufficient to hold my excess daytime urine.

I had some bedwetting issues as a kid, then then in my 50s started needing a diaper at night after leaks with overnight Depends. Yes, the mail order diapers are much better quality than you can easily get in stores.

I used to wear Depends to work, but there is too much of a risk leaking, so I use a good quality diaper during the day as well. Also easier to change in a stall at work, since I don't have to take my pants and shoes all the way off like I do w pull ups.

Good luck to you!

I've been able to manage my incon issues pretty well with absorbant products and medication.

So far I've been able to avoid additional surgeries. Each time I've been catheterized for surgery or a urology procedure there's been issues. Last time I was supposed to have it in for two weeks, ended up being 2 months and I basically lost almost all bladder control and had to get PT to regain some of what I had.

But, good quality products have definitely upped my confidence and made the leakage manageable for me.
