Introduction Page

Well I can control it about 75% when I first get up. Unfortunately the percentage drops as the day goes on. Dry at night though.

@ScottB I agree with @Greensleeves351 I started walking my dog again daily a few weeks after surgery with my Urologists approval. Not long power walks, I am restricted by how far I can walk by my dodgy old knees, but a leisurely walk of just under 3 kilometres. Then when I started seeing the specialist pelvic physiotherapist, she suggested I start doing my kegels as well while walking.

It was a very messy daily exercise initially and I arrived home with an empty bladder and my pullups sodden and needing changing. And doing the kegels properly while upright and walking is much harder than while relaxing and sitting or lying down at home.

But gradually I found the kegels easier to do while walking and I started being able to retain some urine in my bladder and release when I got home leaving less leakage in my pullups.

Now at one week short of 4 months post surgery, while walking daily I can easily do 20 x sets of pelvic holds for a count of 20 each, followed by 20 machine gun short pelvic clench and holds, followed x 10 clench and holds for a 10 count of the muscle behind the 6 pack muscles (I can't remember the name of this one but it is like a corset under the ribs and holds everything together and connects up with the pelvic floor muscles, you clench it by tightening as if preparing to be punched in the stomach) combined with a pelvic floor clench. I do the same kegels twice more each day while sitting at home.

I rarely leak at all at night now, usually only if I forget and try to pass wind in bed, and I get up once or twice a night to empty my bladder, which was my pre-surgery routine anyway as my dog wakes me at least once a night to let her out for a toilet break.

I now wear only a medium absorbency pad nowadays overnight, change it after my morning walk and kegels, and get through most days with 1 or 2 pads depending on how physically strenuous the day is. And my improvement is now steady and ongoing over the last few weeks. I am due to see my pelvic physiotherapist again next week (I see her every 3 - 4 weeks to review my progress and exercise schedule) and I am sure she will be very pleased with my progress since I last saw her 3 weeks ago, I know I am.
