Get this thing out of me!!

I just posted this on my catheter support group.

Ugh I want this OUT. I Agreed to give my SPC another 3 months and take an anti spasm medication to help with the spasms. She gave me oxybutin and i swear my spasms are worse. Then tonight my night bag came unplugged and pee went all over the bed (and on my newly cleaned carpet). I am an amputee and currently can’t use my leg because of an infection so I can’t go to the basement to do laundry. So I just had to put a chux pad down and wait for my aide to come tomorrow.

It’s just all so damn frustrating

Praying for peace and comfort for you and hope things get much better. I would always fear what you described happening with a catheter. If a diaper leaks, it will at least more than likely small amounts that aren’t catastrophic. Good luck!

Catheters and urethra are no joke. I feel for you. I hope you get some very much deserved relief and solutions.

Hey EJ,
I so feel for you. You have been though so much. Sorry that happened. See it they can use a different catheter that has the drains protected like the Duette. They are safer for your bladder lining and should keep spasms to a minimum. There are a few companies who make them this year. Hope the info helps. Prayers your way. Be well and Happy Holidays.

Hi EJ I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're having. I think seeing your doctor is definitely in order and hopefully once that happens the problem can be resolved in less time and with much difficulty than you imagine. I hope you get relief in time for the holidays. Hope you get comfortable and well soon!

Hi again EJ. Seems like it should read "with much less difficulty than you imagine." Sorry about that!!!! I have never claimed to be the world's greatest typist!!!!

Thanks everyone. I just had my catheter leak on my mattress. I’m so f’ing over this thing. Pardon my French I just hate it so much.

Oh, ej,

I know it's really not useful to say, "it's not fair," but this really isn't fair. I am so very sorry that you find yourself in this predicament, and I hope that relief will come soon when your aide arrives to help you.

Hi EJ, I would definitely see the doctor, or even better, your urologist to see if there is some way to get an improved version or if there are any other ideas to help you. You've got our best wishes in finding something that will work well and reliably for you! It'd also be good to talk to your aide about it when she comes by tomorrow.

We were getting old and not especially (what is the opposite of "infirm"? "Outfirm"?) Let's try that again.
We were getting older and no longer really able-bodied and the Grands had moved out. We were pretty sure that our bodies were going to deteriorate. (We were right.) So we downsized to a house 1/2 size of the older, and NO stairs! Bathroom immediately across from the bedroom. (Now, that was simply fortuitous.) Laundry/pantry right next to bath. Took out the carpet in hall, bedroom next. Wall-to-wall in the country where we track in mud in summer and the sand & course sand (for traction) in the winter? The dog fails to wipe his paws. I despise carpet - every time I've taken one out, in spite of the rubber pad, it is filthy under there. (Double yuck.) And that is despite both vacumming, and steam cleaning twice a year. It reduced our sneezing from dust mites, etc. A lot of us know why reducing sneezing is a good thing, I'll bet.

Sorry to hear the problems you are having. There is no advice we can give you - just know that our good thoughts are with you. This is a good place for you to vent and hopefully our support helps a little. Here's hoping 2021 is a much better year for you!

@justej Sorry to hear your troubles, I have had the same. Can you put a flip flow valve on the end of the catheter? I am not sure if you can with SP? Just wonder whether that might stop the spasms? When did the spasms start?

Oh I feel for you! When I had Botox it put me in full retention and I had so many issues with caths, the uti's were the worse! Hang in there!!

I hope your'e doing better today justej, have them take that thing out of you immediately and demand alternatives to your urologist. I've never had a catheter but can imagine how horrible they feel and the uti's they can cause. They wanted to cath me in hospital and I said NO!, I manage it with diapers.

So today was much better in regards to the SPC. I was able to wear my prosthetic leg (I’m an amputee) so that made getting to the bathroom to use my flip flow valve much easier. My tube did come undone from my night bag when i got up this morning but the damage wasn’t too bad. When I can’t wear my leg I literally have to crawl to the bathroom on my knees and I can never make it in time. On these days I usually wear a diaper and say screw it. Feeling better about things but still think this is a pain in the ass.
