Erections (guys)

Hey, I was wondering if anyone can attest to this. Lately I’ve been having some ED issues, specifically losing my erection during intercourse. It’s really frustrating. I’ve only been in diapers a couple years but I wonder if the added pressure of wet padding on the penis/testicles can lead to muscle issues. It could also be my anxiety or issues from my spinal cord injury. I am also going to get my testosterone checked this week. Definitely something I will discuss with my doctors

If you are seeing your doc soon also ask about zinc. My doc recommended it and while it didn’t help bladder control it definitely helped in the testosterone dept. No blood tests recently but way better drive, interest, erections, and outside of the sexual aRena overall energy focus and concentration.

Now I just need to find a lady to enjoy it with lol.

Hi DCny, I’ve have had 5 back surgeries for stenosis. The last surgery left me incontinent and with that I also have ED issues. I’ve tried many practices and medications, but nothing has helped. My Urologist has told me my nerves aren’t working and there isn’t really anything they can do. He referred me to a neurologist for possibly more surgery. My wife and I decided not to do anymore surgery. As far as my ED we have found other ways to experience rewarding ways to enjoy satisfaction for both of us. As of today nothing has worked to correct our ED problem. I say “our” because it affects both my wife and I. We use a lot of Romance and cuddling to offset our ED issues. I think my wife and I are closer now then we have ever been. Just think outside the box to find what works best for your relationship. ED is an awe full thing but it’s not the end of the world. Your partners will understand and they do understand and can offer ideas to overcome the ED issue. Guys, in most cases, ED can be fixed. Talk to your doctor. They can normally find a fix for your issue. I hope this helps. I refuse to let ED control my life and I found adding more romance into your relationship is very rewarding. Hope this helps guys. Thanks for listening to my ramblings.

I am on generic Cialis, which I can't tell is helping. I am also using a pump to keep blood flow to the area...

The thing that works for me is Trimix injections - they work!

I was told that none of that may be necessary long term, but need to keep the vascular system working until the nerves catch up and heal.

We will see!

+God+bless+

Thanks iuwogeo, I have been through the Trimix injection with no results. The urologist tell me my nerves are dead so I just can’t respond. I’ve tried just about every treatment; except surgery which I believe caused all my problems. So no more cutting. I’m afraid what more could go wrong. Thanks for the advice. Hopefully, your advice can help someone out there. The advice we get on this site is very helpful to most of us. I know it has helped me and sometimes we just need friends to help us along life’s journey. Thank you again your advice. Hopefully it will help someone on their journey in life.

Hmmm, strange, as the Trimix is supposed to work on the vascular system BECAUSE the nerves are 'dead' or in my case traumatized and still recovering!

I would ask your doctor more questions about why Trimix didn't work, as I was told it was needed UNTIL the nerves repair, so not dependent on nerves at all!

Sorry it didn't work for you, but I would definitely as for more info as to why...

What type of spinal injury do you have and what meds do you take? I ask because depending what type and where the injury is and/or the medication both can cause major issues with getting erect and maintaining an erection or the ability to orgasm.

The fact that you're physically able to get erect is a huge plus, have you tried Viagra to help you keep it? Typically your doctor will send you a few to try.

I havent been effected that way from wearing inc protection in the 27 years I have had to use them. When I did experience this issue It was from medications I was taking and I stopped taking them and it corrected itself. With age I seem to not have near the desire for sex and im actually alright with that, however I do enjoy it from time to time. I have tried the help out pills like cialis but I get bad headaches when I tried them. They did work but it wasnt worth the headache to me. I guess I just wont be able to perform like a porn star anymore, maybe I never did.

Don’t worry Ruhappy, we were all porn stars in our own minds. Now I just feel like I have the uro/Ed capacity of a toddler…ha,ha. Enjoy life everyone. Everything is good if we want it to be regardless of our ailments!

i recommend watching your diet, lots of exercise outdoors then a simple dinner, a bath, lots of good body high weed, patience and a simple mechanical cock ring.

Try cognitive behavioral therapy. An adult who refers to briefs as diapers has issues that need thoughtful unpacking.

Tons of amazing toys can make up for what nature didn't supply.

I'm age 76 now and I have been totally out of action since about 2010, but it started shutting down around 2003 when I started taking medications for things like hypertension, stroke, heart failure and other things.

The side effects of drugs are a challenge.

For me initially I was so focussed on the incontinence issue after prostatectomy. I still struggle from time to time dealing with the uncertainties around that issue. Although I've improved a lot I am by no means fully continent. For me that has been the more stressful part. With regards to erections, yes I miss not getting them but with the vacuum pump I can get very good results and also very pleasurable orgasms. For us the fact that my wife has a prolapse and is awaiting surgery means that full intercourse had not been possible in any case. Also the menopause has reduced her desires somewhat. I agree that finding intimacy and romance in other ways is important. I also reflect on many folk I know, neighbours, friends and work colleagues who have never been married and because of thier conservative values will never have known the joys of sexual intimacy. And so I tell myself to be thankful for the 40 years of the joy and pleasure that a good marriage has brought. Of course there are times when you long for past pleasures to return even as you adjust to a new normal.

ED can go hand in hand with incontinence if it affects your pelvic floor. I may be wrong but I think loss of tone in the sphincters affects part of arousal.

A wet, compressing diaper will not cause ED, but could kill some sperm if it gets too warm.

Likely causes relate to:
-medications (my antidepressant does this)
-pelvic floor/sphincter issues
-testosterone/hypogonadism (I use testosterone crème 2x per day. LOVEIT!)

Aging is such a drag! I’m glad I thoroughly enjoyed sex from ages 16-39 (23 years) until I 1) got cancer in the reproductive region and a lot of body parts chopped out, and 2) fell down the cliff, rendering sex excruciating because of spinal damage. I had plenty of 2-year-long relationships, pretty much back-to-back, then was married for seven years. I had lots of fun between my partners, too. So yes, @Hbrownlow I am very glad I had lots of great sex while I could! The dominant faith where I grew up totally forbids premarital sex. What a waste!

Can I assume I may again get erections someday or is that a pipe dream? My urologist is extremely difficult to get any information from. I get good results from my regular doctor but he tells me to talk to the urologist in that area.

@wyr13 This is a complicated issue and much goes into it. It is both psychological and physiological. this is why men can have failures from stress or medication. And nerve or vascular damage. Males start having nocturnal erections before we are born and continue in our healthy life. Our bodies system for keeping everything working and tissues elastic. When these stop for whatever reason the health and elasticity of the tissue suffers. Like as in most cases as with incontinence this is not a life-threatening condition. Depending on your insurance your doctors may not offer a lot. May have to do with the area you live also. There are a lot of treatments for ED. Some are very good and there are some really world class doctors for this. But there is also so some bad snake oil type stuff around. There are a number of support group websites you can get information from. There is one that is really good with a lot of knowledgeable people like the ones on this site. Not sure about the rules on this site and posting links to other web sites, but if you send me a private message, I can direct you to it. ED as I said can cause damage and it is important to seek treatment early. A lot of men do not. If you cannot get any help from your urologist, you may need to change to a different doctor. Or maybe you need to find out the right questions to ask to get the help you need.

@wyr13 Have you seen the posts from @thudson1965 about his ED recovery methodology? It’s the best post I’ve ever seen on this topic. He gives really detailed, specific info about his own treatment. He seems to have had more success than others so I would recommend finding those posts or reaching out to him directly.

I found one such post for you; his reply is a few entries below the topic heading:

BPH has affected my erections and size. Sometimes viagra works, sometimes not. Cialis works good but I get leg pains if I take more than a few days in a row.

I also have lt-mdt incontinence. I've done no coffee, coffee, limited/unlimited fluids. I don't drink alcohol but I do have one cup of coffee in the morning. Some days I'm dry, some days I'm thinking the incontinence is progressing rapidly. I just live my life and deal accordingly trying to make good diet /exercise choices.
