Big leak seated

I have had a couple of recent episodes where I dozed off seated late at night and woke up with the pad, underwear and trousers soaked. Normally I am generally dry when seated. I have never had incidents like these before since my prostatectomy 15 months ago. I did start using a penile clamp over the past two weeks mostly in the evening when my leakage was slightly worse and just wondering if these incidents are related. We have also been having a heat wave here and I have been drinking a bit more and perhaps later in the evening than usual. Can anyone cast any light on these big leaks since I don't normally leak that amount at any other time.

Just to be clear I wasn't wearing the clamp when I leaked. I could have used it outside for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Then I was using my light pad in the evening which is normally adequate when I'm resting or seated

I know that later in the day, my body gets tired and I have more leaks and more frequent restroom visits at night.

Definitely ask your doctor. Maybe someone else on here has had first hand experience... but here are some other things I found quickly.

Elevated amounts of urine production that occurs only at night can happen when fluid intake goes up at night. It can also occur when peripheral edema — swelling or fluid accumulation in the legs — relocates after a person moves into a sitting or lying position.

I think with more intake and possibly with it being hotter these days, your body is retaining more during the day and releasing more during the evening/at night, but...I am not a Dr, don't play one on TV and did NOT even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so...

Coexisting medical problems can contribute to peripheral edema and raise the risk of nocturnal polyuria.

Here is something that I read recently that may help: Compression socks or stockings - helps to reduce swelling and fluid retention during the day...I know what you are describing is not nocturia, per se, but is similar.

Where does the excess fluids go when wearing compression stockings?
I have edmema, most likely caused by my beta blocker. If I wear the compression stockings (knee highs), where does the fluids go? It doesn't really get rid of fluids, just spreads it more evenly?

"When wearing compression stockings, tissue fluid is picked up by the lymphatic circulation and returned to the blood stream."

"To control swelling, compression hose are best applied in the morning, before getting out of bed. This is when the swelling is at its least. Therefore, by applying the hose at this time, the fluid cannot build up during the day. If you have swelling in the thigh area when wearing knee-length hose, you may want to be measure and fitted for a thigh-length hose to reduce this. Prevention of the swelling is the key. You should also mention this to your doctor and possibly have your lymph drainage problems evaluated."

"Compression hose helps the fluid stay out of your legs. Put simply, the fluid basically returns back to your heart as it should."

"You should elevate the legs at night and wear compression hose in the daytime. Application is best in the morning, as soon as you wake. This way the legs do not get a chance to swell and whatever swelling there is, should be returned to your circulation. Beta blockers normally do not cause a great deal of swelling."

Hope this helps!

I think the combination of heat and drinking (probably more while in the heat) lead to the dozing off and body relaxing. I suggest tracking it (writing down when it occurs and what's going before hand).

I know once most people are dry while sitting they tend to be good but the factors of heat, drinking more, and dozing may be the cause.

For me when I take migraine medicine near bedtime, I wear a pull up because my body finally gets relief from the pain and I relax and leak more at night.

Thanks everyone. Yes on one of the occasions I had been away day and had minimised by fluid intake. I then compensated by drinking more when I came home when my normal pattern is to drink in the early part of the day and avoiding drinking after 7pm so perhaps that was a contributing factor
