“Fluffing” of diapers

@donny4 - Sorry wait. Is that the successful result of a specific diaper? Of course that is all you can speak to. I am a female looking for the "fluffing magic" that may help with a pull up. Thank you - Pam

I’m going to try it with a Depend Night Dense pull-up tonight. I always take mine out of the bags too, and put them in a drawer, but I never realize that by doing so I was decompressing them, but that is definitely what happens incidentally

@snow -Okay snow. A. Let us know how long that you fluffed them time wise and B. How well did it work. Thanks - Pam

@Pammy53 I tried it for 15 seconds. The Depend Night Defense didn’t get particularly fluffy, but it feels slightly more comfortable. I tried shaping the crotch into a V and I think that’s part of why it’s more comfortable. It feels better than sitting on the typical rectangle pad. Tomorrow night if I remember, I’ll run the dryer for a minute. It sure feels really weird to dry something with plastic! The only thing I dry are sheets and towels. I hang-dry everything else.

By the way, I stand corrected about something I said on another post that I don’t remember the title for. I said the Depend Night Defense pad goes all the way up in the back but I was wrong. It only goes to the top of your butt crack. When I get leaks, they are often up my backside.

Tonight I tried fluffing my Depend Night Defense in the dryer for one minute. I also v’d the crotch. Again, it’s slightly more comfortable but I don’t think it’s fluffier, per se. Maybe that’s because there isn’t that much padding in a Depend? I always imagine that a Northshore Megamax (or other expensive, high-end, mail order diapers) are made of wall to wall padding? If so, I can imagine one of those getting more fluffed up. To me a Depend is never fully comfortable because of the 5” of thick, tight elastic on your thighs and stomach, which probably has to be true of any diaper, unfortunately, or else urine will leak out.

Ever since I could talk, I started telling my mom that when I wore pants, I got stomach aches. It’s still true to this day. I try to wear dresses as much as possible because waistbands give me stomach aches. Somehow it never really occurred to me to talk to a doctor about it because I figured they’re just going to say I’m making it up and there’s no reason that would happen. I do still wear pants sometimes and of course when I do, I constantly have a stomachache. It doesn’t matter if it’s button up or elastic, baggie, or tight. Part of the problem is that I have a really high waist and pants are made for low waists so they just never really fit me right. Im no longer very tall - only 5’6” thanks to Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis, but I used to be 5’8.5” tall and pants really didn’t fit me well back then. Too tall.

@snow - I don't have any problem with how the Depends night time fit. I did try fluffing mine for about 5 minutes. - Though there was a noticeable change in how they felt - I agree, Depends is not exactly high end. Fluffing the better ones is probably more effective. - Pam

I decided to try fluffing a MegaMax and a GoSupreme. 30 seconds in dryer. The MegMax really did fluff up. The pull-up was less so. I could not discern a difference comfort, absorbency or visibility in either. But it certainly was interesting to see the diaper fluffed.

I read this post not long after it was originally posted. I have not heard of this before but often thought they jam these pullups and diapers into these bags so tight! Some times I find getting the 1st couple out a battle. I thought I would give this a try and I must say thank you all for posting about fluffing. As stated by many already pullups and diapers are softer, more comfortable to wear, and seem to absorb better.
What I have learned over last coupe weeks of dryer fluffing that may help you as well. My pullups (Because for men and McKesson unisex both in overnight absorbency) 10 minutes with 5 or 6 at a time works well. Seems through experimentation the pullups need to be "beat up" more than diapers. Maybe it's the lesser amount of absorbent material to fluff. Diapers (A mix of Better dry, crinkles, and Northshore (not megamax)). 1 1/2 minutes. I originally tried 5 minutes but the absorbency material came apart and clumped. Dropped to 3 minutes and had these same issue only slightly less clumping. 1 1/2 minutes seems like the sweet spot.
Again want to say thanks for the info from all of you. Good stuff.

@Tim- Thanks for the experimentation part of your post re how much time to try fluffing the various pull ups. Financially I can only do Depends night time. I don't have an air only cycle, just cool down on the permanent press. I think I tried 5 minutes on the ending cool down for two pull ups. It helped a little I think, but not like "Oh Wow" Maybe I should try it again, but longer.- And yes, they do package the darn things SO TIGHT!! Heaven forbid if you need one in a hurry! - Perhaps they should forget this silly incontinence stuff and consider storing nuclear waste. - Pam

To help get them out of the package I cut the package open with scissors along the top first then around the rest of the package, being careful not to cut the pull-ups. This makes a huge difference. I then take them out of the package and put them in my dresser drawer so they have room to fluff up and so they’re hidden from sight. In my bathroom, I keep some in a garbage can because nobody nobody else uses it so nobody else would think that it’s an actual garbage can. I like that I don’t have to see them. I split the garbage can too so that on one side I keep garbage bags and then on the other side I keep diapers that are only halfway used, like if I only wore them half the night or if I wore them all night but had no accident, then I’ll wear them again if it’s only for a half night.

@snow - I try to keep my supplies as far out of sight as conveniently possible, just incase we have anyone over. Of course in our bedroom, a bedside commode is not easily hidden. Hard to avoid that piece of furniture. I try to keep everything tidy and taken care of, but a can of Fabreeze spray is always within reach. - Pam

@Pammy53 Maybe 24 if you have people over you could put like a barbecue cover over it or a blanket just temporarily while they’re there.

@snow - I think the blanket idea is more doable. It would be more easily draped to cover if you know what I mean. - I kinda have to chuckle with Maymay about using a barbecue cover. Can you imagine someone seeing that next to your bed? - "WOW" You barbecue in your bedroom? Now that's dedication. :)) - Pam
