“Fluffing” of diapers

Recently I’ve come across the concept of “fluffing” diapers before wearing them. I decided to try it this morning with a Northshore Premium blasting backed diaper. Put it in the dryer no heat for 90 seconds.

I must say, while it’s thicker and way more obvious under my pants, it is far more comfortable and easier to move around plus the diaper seems to be staying in place more when I move around

Have I been doing diapers wrong for the last 5 years?

Never heard of this

The most revolutionary other idea ive heard was to fold diaper length wise to get a dip in the centeri stead of a flat surface

Yes been doing this for along time. I’ll throw 6 in the dryer for 2-3 minutes, no heat, and they puff up great and are incredibly comfortable when you put them on. Be prepared because they fluff up to almost 3X the thickness.

Mine is maybe 1.5x. I’ll have to let it go longer and see. Probably gonna look ridiculous wearing them out of the house though lol

I do the same, just fluff it a bit by hand, definitely helps absorb faster and it fits tighter to my body. They don't fluff as much doing it by hand which helps with keeping it discreet. Also, folding it lengthwise like a cannoe keeps all the pesky leaks from seeping out since it provides a place for the urine to collect and have time to absorb properly.

@Newbie2this - Okay Newbie2 - since you posted this first I will respond to you, but it also applies to everyone else that knew about this trick. - Someone tell me HOW you find out about this stuff?? I mean really - WHO thinks of this???.- I don't have air dry on my dryer, just cool down on the permanent press cycle. Maybe that would be okay. It's the closest thing that I have to no heat. I think that snow's idea of using it at night is a good idea. But, if I happen to know that I would be at home all day - I would try it. Definitely doing this tonight. - Thank you - Pam

I wondered also Pammy I've never seen that suggested to air fluff

Closest I've had is accidentally washing the disposable with my bed pad and throwing it in trash intact and very wet lol

Fair question. I was searching YouTube for diaper reviews recently when I got a new pack of L4s and discovered they switched to cloth packed. A guy who says he has oab and does diaper reviews had a video in his list where he demo’s it with an XP5000

Where he learned it I have no clue.

@Maymay941 - Oh my gosh Maymay that is funny! - If it makes you feel any better - I have done the SAMETHING! - Going to try that fluff thing tonight - I find all these Hacks interesting. Once again HOW DO YOU THINK OF IT??? - I mean really, asking advice on eating foods friendly for IC? And what do we all do? Tell everyone here about all the junk that we love. Of course we all love it! - And so it goes... - Pam

Sounds like a plan for bedtime diapers only.

I actually did it again this afternoon before running errands. Once I put jeans on as opposed to sweats I was wearing around the house it was way less noticible. Still a bit more than unfluffed but not absurdly huge or anything.

My assessment, anyone who could determine you are wearing a diaper when not fluffed will also detect it when fluffed, those who can’t detect it unfluffed won’t detect it fluffed.

And yes it absorbs the liquid way way faster and keeps the skin much dryer.

Once I put on my fluffed diapers under my jeans it’s no more noticeable than before. They compress just fine but are so much more comfy.

Interesting topic. I first heard about "fluffing" from a realworldIC video, but this is the first I've heard of doing it by tumbling them.
I've been "fluffing" mine for about a year or two now, but only by flexing and rolling them. There are limits though. Too much will make the absorbent material start to fall apart and clump. I do find it helps the acquisition rate for absorbing wetness and is much more comfortable. I only fluff the front and back though, since the middle of the diaper is already bulky enough for me. I do flex the middle back and forth a couple times. It softens it a little without really increasing bulkiness.
I also try to open a new package of diapers about a week before using them so they can decompress. When first opening the pack, the diapers on the outside ends of the package are already less compressed than the ones in the middle of the pack.
As far as folding them, I first learned that from a Northshore video, but I do it a little different. Instead of a "V" shape, I fold backwards first to end up forming a "W" shape. I know one guy on this forum referred to it as the dreaded W form, but it works well for me and I find it to be my preference. To each their own.
I've also noticed different diaper brands react different. ATN's don't result in clumping since they're quilted, but they just don't have the capacity I need. I've used Abri-form M4's and Betterdry this way. Both work very well when fluffed.

@Newbie2this - Hi Newbie - Does fluffing apply to both men and women - as in - is the technique the same no matter the "style" of the diaper? Thanks - Pam

I usually wear tape on diapers that are unisex. If you are talking about underwear style gender specific products I don’t know.
