Which way to go?

Hey. New here. Having issues [BPH] with both urge and overflow incontinence. Have been using Guards for 3 months. Anyone used an external condom cath system? If so - would it be more 'efficient' than the guards and easier as well? If so, any particular brand or type? Thanks in advance.

They work well for some, not so good for others. I love them, total freedom! I use the Silicone type, mainly Mentor LS (long seal), more adhesive, and with a skin prep (3M), they are SECURE! Hollister bags are good, and Uromed makes a sock to hold the bag, eliminating the straps that can dig in. Takes the worry away from leaks or just having a wel pad... not so fun Good luck!

I tried a couple brands and didn't like it at all!! Not comfortable and still leaked. It didn't evacuate my flow fast enough. Haven't looked at them in a little over a year though, maybe there better now.

I use Conveen Optima external catheters at night with a 2000 ML bag. Have been for about 12 months on and off. (I get fed up at times and try to sleep without the rig.) For me this has been the best in terms of comfort and practicality. Other brands have either come loose, or have been glued on so tight I did not think I would ever get the the silly thing back off...

Thanks, SKinnyb for sharing the info and especially details of how best to try it out. Much appreciated.

Petejc - thanks for your comments. May I ask: what brand or kind of product did you use that caused the leakage? Need to stay away from that. Doesn't solve anything, right? Thanks again.

notarobot - thanks for commenting on my post. Good to hear you've had good results from the ecc. Really appreciate the brand details!

I've used Bard, coven, freedom, and coloplast. None of these worked for me, like this said they didn't evacuate the flow fast enough. Hope this helps.

I used the Coloplast stuff with success. I'm dealing with everything differently now but no leaks. You do have to keep an eye on the bag to empty when needed. Backups are UTI time I think? Anyway get a prescription and go to the manufacturers and ask for samples and decide that way. What works for you might be totally different from me.

Jay - thank you for the reply. Good info. Am still trying to decide 'which way to go', so appreciate the info.

Just a ditto to size matters. I have to say that I had my printer set wrong on one of those sizing chart things. It was like 5X then it was supposed to be and made me think "Did I get this for Horses or porn stars?" It was a big (No pun intended) relief to get the thing printed 1:1 ratio.

I had a good experience calling Coloplast for samples and they mixed the sizes a little bit which I think was helpful in nailing the right size.
