First time in almost two decades that I will be seeing a urologist. I hope it is a productive visit but I would be lying if I said I was not on edge about it..there is a lot of anxiety that I am feeling from years with my first urologist but I need to get to the bottom of everything that is going on with me so. I just have to be up front about not taking certain medicines that would effects my mental health because the last doctor I saw as a kid gave me psychology medicine, and treated me like I was crazy for wearing a diaper when I was wetting the bed every night. Hoping for a better outcome this time..

I have never had a problem with urology appointments or tests. And as for wearing nappies I was just told do what works best for you. Then I was refered to the continence nurse for practical help in managing the problem. I have found over the years doctors are more interested in dealing with the cause of the incontinene than how you manage it.

Be upfront with your doctor about all issues you are dealing with, including ALL medications you are taking, including over the counter meds.

Hi @ThatFLGuy, You are definitely taking the right approach. I'm happy you are doing this to help yourself and hope you get satisfactory answers and have a good visit. It's good you're being upfront about medications and honest about how they affect you and hopefully the doctor respects that. And by the way, no one should be deemed crazy for wearing diapers to deal with wetting the bed.

Incontinence medications do not alter your mental health. You’re going to a urologist, not a psychiatrist.

You are right to be cautious about anything that a doctor prescribes. Personally, I have many very good doctors, but I always tell them that I will research what they have suggested and get back to them with questions.

Most recently, my primary prescribed osteoporosis medication. I told him I would look into it and get back to him. After much reading I told him all the medications available for osteoporosis had too many risks. He referred me to a specialist. After that visit I still decided it was just too dangerous for me. Both the primary and the specialist (as well as all my other specialists) agreed that I should wait to see if my plan of supplements and exercise would work.

I took 5 months to come to this decision. So, I am not afraid of the doctors, but I am always cautious.

God bless you in your journey.

Hi MJJB, After doing all that research I back your plan to see if supplements and exercise work. If it were me I would choose that over some medications that make me feel uncertain.

Update, not a bad visit but nothing but going over history was done. So about what I was saying in the first post. At fifteen I started wetting the bed and the doctor I went to prescribed several medications over the year I saw him some of the medications were antianxiety medicine but that was after test and trying other things.. what his feeling was that I had a issue with my brain and not a physical problem. There never was an brain studies done because I aged of my parents insurance and I had an issue with one of the medications make my lack emotions.

Even the doctor I saw Wensday wanted to know if I had an trama or sexual abuse in my life time.. not an easy convection with both of those topics and I have an extension history of doing dumb stuff and hurting myself so. All in all I have to get to the biofeedback therapist and then have follow ups with other doctors later on so it will be a long year again this year.

Sounds like you need to do extensive work with a psychotherapist to reduce your anxiety and to address your past trauma. I guarantee that if you put your heart and soul into it, the peaceful rewards will be infinite.

I’m not saying your bladder problems have anything to do with your mental health status. I’m saying, sounds like, separately, you need to get some counseling.

So what’s the next step for your bladder problems? What tests did your doctor schedule?

Going to counseling may not be a bad idea at all! A psychotherapist will help you sort things out and to make sense of what is going on in your life. Sometimes I wish I could have some counseling.
