Traveling, hotels and preparations

Hi all,

How do you prepare when traveling by air and are going to stay in a hotel for an extended period? Do you call the hotel to tell about issues, so that they can put proper mattress protection, do you ask for a bigger trashcan/diaper bin? Do you use disposable mattress protection in addition?

I was going to order diapers sent to the hotel - to avoid filling up my luggage. Anything else people are doing?

While I do not fly, I have read enough tips to give a few. I only ever stay one night when traveling so.

Yes call the hotel. Ask for extra bedding and a mattress protector.

Medical supplies are almost always free to travel with (Call the airline and ask).

Make sure you have more stuff than you think you are going to need.

I shared a collapsible trash can here before. They are cheap and can go right in your bag. (Check amazon)

Yes to the disposable mattress protection. That way if you do have an issue you can change things out and still sleep.

Last, just have fun. No one cares what you have on.

I don't ask for any extra accommodations, every hotel I've stayed at in recent memory seems to have some kind of waterproof sheet/barrier. I also typically fly with my wife and kids, so I just pack my extra supplies with them. I'd definitely suggest taking more than you think you need (free carryon for medical supplies might be a thing), and maybe an extra bag for used products. Just a different perspective.

My only other suggestion is to arrive earlier for security at the airport and be prepared to reveal to TSA that you're wearing protection. The last time I flew I had to go into private screening and pull my pants down. It was over in minutes but your only other option is to go through without and put it on after OR hope they don't trigger enhanced screening.
