Put a high capacity diaper on WITH a booster pad and still get leaks. I’m so tired of this. I hate being incontinent and I hate my life.

@justej

I had a big leak with a white MegaMax yesterday with Gary wear pants. I can't seem to get a tight fit around the legs sometimes. The only other thing is that I do sometimes pull down my diaper for a bowel movement. I don't remember if I re-did the tabs after.

@ThatFLGuy the only diaper that sometimes does not leak on me is the black MegaMax. I have the best luck with those. I’m wondering if it’s my pul pants. I’m gonna go to pt tomorrow and just wear a bodysuit and black MegaMax and hope for the best.

I’m doing an experiment tonight. I’m going to wear just a tie dye MegaMax and nothing else. And sleep on a chux and reusable bed pad to catch any leaks. I have a big feeling it’s my pul pants.

@Ekimretlaw no because it’s not overactive bladder. My bladder is paralyzed. It fills up and releases without sensation

I see. I wish I could offer you some kind of helpful advice, but I’m coming up empty. I know the incontinence issue is awful. My best to you. Don’t give up!

justej: Try putting a 100% cotton cloth pad or microfiber pad in your Mega Max rather than a regular booster. Either of those will absorb a large flood much faster than the top sheet of the diaper or booster and then it will distribute it to the Mega Max. The only down side is having to rinse out the pad in the sink when you change it out and hanging to dry. Then when it's dry you can wait until a regular wash to launder it and have it ready for the next use.

@justej I feel your pain. I did not have any kind of injury or illness but started pouring, not leaking all of a sudden. No doctors could give me an answer and looked at me like I was crazy when I told them that I also had severe nerve pain down my arms when I would have a bladder spasm. I took the bull by the horns after no meds or Botox would help after the first injection. My sister lives in upper Virginia so I called the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland. They took me right in and told me a had somehow developed a Neurogenic Bladder. The director physician spent 2 hours examining me and talking to me. Since I live in SC, she made arrangements for me to see a neurologist urologist specialist in MUSC there. I Also had some paralysis in my muscles so she set me up for Physical Therapy. She gave me hope since all I did was cry every day. Everyday I tried to train my bladder somewhat and it actually seemed to improve. I leak now but I don’t pour. I guess what I want to say to you is keep trying. Take your bull by the horns and advocate for yourself. Big hugs coming your way.

any diaper will leak no matter how good the diaper

11 Tips to Prevent and Minimize Adult Diaper Leaks

Change the Size/Fit
It is not easy to find the best size of a diaper, but since the wrong choice of a diaper is a major cause of diaper leaks, finding the diaper that fits best is critical.

A very large diaper is not only uncomfortable but also ineffective in holding in liquids. Similarly, a very tight diaper will overflow, leading to embarrassing leaks. To solve the problem, you can try another size by first measuring the waist and thigh measurement of the user, and then using size charts provided by diaper manufacturers.

Change the Diaper Brand
It takes time before you find the optimal incontinence product available, but you should not stop the search until you have found the perfect fit. Diaper leaks could be the result of poor diaper construction or ineffective absorption technology. The best adult diapers come with multiple cores to absorb more liquid. Older products on the market lack such revolutionary technology, and you should thus look for newer and more effective incontinence protection products.

Use Booster Pads
The main cause of diaper leaks among adults is poor absorbency of the incontinence product. While changing the product or the brand is a great option, it is also advisable to look for a more effective solution to the absorbency problem. Adding booster pads to the diaper is a popular way of increasing absorbency and because these incontinence pads are thin, they will not affect movement. This makes them absorbent, yet discreet.

Request Sample Diapers
Another sure way to find the best incontinence diaper for you is by requesting sample products from different brands. Most brands now offer a sample pack as a way of winning customers. These samples not only help you test the size and fit of the diaper, but you can also detect any skin reactions to the product. Requesting free samples is a great way to find diapers that won’t leak without investing any money until you know what you need.

Explore Bariatric Diapers for Large Sized People
As a caregiver, you understand how difficult it is to provide quality care for larger sized individuals. If you have an immobile large bodied family member under your care, diaper leaks can be a chronic issue because most products on the market don’t accommodate their extra weight or large frame. To overcome the diaper leak problem, you should explore bariatric diapers, which are extremely absorbent and designed to cope with any level of incontinence.

Use Gender-Specific Diapers
Most diaper brands on the market now offer gender-specific incontinence products, which are more effective in protecting leaks than regular diapers. Men’s adult diapers feature an absorbent core on the front while women diapers target urine leaks with a more absorbent part on the lower area of the diaper. These incontinence products protect against leaks by targeting the specific problem areas.

Try Overnight Incontinence Products
Most diaper leaks occur at night and an overnight diaper is thus an effective solution. Overnight adult diapers are more absorbent than regular diapers, and the design takes into consideration that the user might move around during his sleep. These diapers feature layers of absorbent cores to prevent leaks throughout the night.

Check Your Diet
One of the easiest ways to manage incontinence problems at night is by limiting fluid intake before bedtime. You should limit drinks after dinner to reduce urine production and release at night.

Avoid caffeinated drinks, honey and artificial sweeteners, citrus fruits and juices, spicy food, milk, yogurt, cheese, and sugar before bedtime. Stay away from alcohol as it stimulates the bladder.

Use Diapers with Wetness Indicators
To minimize the chance of urine leaks, it is advisable to change diapers regularly. However, this is not easy and will also add to the cost of incontinence management. Without knowing if the diaper is full, it is difficult for a caregiver to take any action. This is when a wetness indicator comes in handy. This feature indicates any wetness and gives signal to the caregiver to change the diaper. It prevents leaks and keeps your patient or loved one dry and comfortable throughout the night.

Exercise Your Pelvic Muscles
One of the leading causes of adult incontinence is the weakening of pelvic muscles. Doctors recommend Kegel exercises to improve muscle control. Exercising the pelvic muscles is a long-term solution to the incontinence problem, and if you do these exercises daily, you will note a reduction in urine loss at night.

Elevate Your Legs
Doctors recommend elevating the legs when sleeping in order to take the stress off of your pelvic muscles. This reduces the pressure on bladder muscles, thereby preventing urine loss.

If you live with adult incontinence, using adult pull up diapers is the best way to take charge of your life. These diapers allow you to enjoy your favorite daily activities without any fears of embarrassing incidences, and, at the same time, enjoy peaceful nights. To deal with diaper leaks, you should consider a change of diaper size, brand and style. You may also want to check your diet. It is important to keep the risk factors that exacerbate incontinence, such as smoking, alcohol, obesity, spicy or acidic foods, and caffeinated drinks, in mind. These tips will help you provide better care for your patient.

God bless you DMorris.

I really resonated with this, as I can relate to your situation. My bladder spasms would make me coop up in my apartment alone; and It would bring me to the point of tears somedays. I hated myself for it, and it made me antisocial and a recluse. Luckily, stress is a factor of the severe bouts - and with coping mechanisms it hasn't been so bad. The frequency and leakage is still the same. Pain, only on rare occasions. Normally just a pressure.

Spasms, urge incontinence and bladder issues in general are NO FUN.

Thank you for sharing your story with us...maybe it will inspire others.

Blessings,
HC

To those saying “leaks happen with All diapers” I will not accept this. Plenty of people wear them and do not have leaks. Yes I realize that once in awhile leaks happen but not almost every time I have an accident. This is unacceptable. And @dpcare - thanks but none of those apply.

@JohnAdam I’m transgender and have female anatomy. Condom catheters don’t work.

@justej

Okay, one observation I found is that I always seem to leak when my urine is more yellow. It never seems to absorb as fast as when it is clear. This came up because when I have a bowel accident it is almost always runny and very little is absorbed.

Just a thought 🤔🤔🤔

@Ekimretlaw @justej I also have Neurogenic Bladder (from falling down a cliff), but in my case my bladder isn’t entirely paralyzed. My symptoms are overactive bladder, urge frequency, bladder spasms, poly nocturia (every 5-60 minutes at night), because when I fell down the cliff, I permanently severed the nerve that tells my bladder/brain to quit producing/releasing urine at night. My diagnosis helps my doctor and I realize that the treatment I best respond to is Botox, which *does* paralyzed the bladder. The cause of my symptoms is not something that can ever be fixed with a surgery. On the bright side, at least so far in 6.5 years, it hasn’t become worse!

@justej Sorry you had a bad day(s) with leaks. Some days are so much worse and really wipe me out, but I’m glad I’m less disturbed by them than I was in the beginning! How did your experiment go last night?

Dies anyone know if @billiveshere is okay? Haven’t seen him post in a few days. Vacation?

@Dmorris A neurologist urologist?!!!! I would love to see one!!!!!! If I move back to CA (got a big new job there and a stipend from the company to move, but still thinking it through), I know I can find one. But here in SLC, UT I can’t even a non-OB of a GYN. OB/GYNs only care about their pregnant patients. I much prefer a plain GYN. I also can’t find a urogynecologist. I’ve searched the surrounding counties as well. What did your NeuroUrologist do that your regular Urologist didn’t? Thanks.

@snow

Okay big question, what nerve did you sever? The reason I ask is because after I wrecked my bicycle at 15 I started bed wetting. My urologist never back then or even the one I was seeing never thought about that.
