Time change, good, bad or indifferent?

Hi everyone! If you were chagrined to find you were super-early to wherever you usually go on Sunday mornings then check your watch! Yes, change it! Welcome to Standard Time, where it gets dark earlier and in the mornings the kids don't have to wait for the school bus in the dark.
Question is, do you like going to Standard Time, hate it or don't really care?
To me I think it is easier on the whole to transition to Standard Time than it is switch to Daylight Time. Besides, that extra hour of sleep was put to good use, trust me on that!
Any other thoughts?

I just wish they would pick one and stay with it. We have to risk life-n-limb climbing on a ladder to get to all the clocks.

The time change really doesn’t bother me, for years I was a long haul trucker and I would change time zones on a daily basis, so changing to standard or daylight time really doesn’t affect me the way that it does other people. But I will admit that going to standard time is much easier and it is nice to get that extra hour of sleep.

Very good point, @MezaJarJarBinks. Arguments for and against still rage on and on. I agree they need to pick one or the other and stay with it. I do appreciate your comment on risking life and limb to climb ladders to change clocks and that's not to mention dislocated shoulders by stretching up to reach clocks, as I would likely do!
I'd propose just setting the time to only a half hour ahead and not a full hour so the adjustment would seem less jarring.

Since I’ve had a hard time both falling asleep and staying asleep, I hate switching to standard time. Me, be able to instantly go to bed easily, or enjoy a fair “extra” hour of sleep? Nope, not happening. And who wants to get up earlier for work? Not an insomniac. I prefer daylight savings time overall, but more than anything, I just want them to pick a time and stick to it.

I hate standard time. I have to drive home from work in the dark at 5 pm. I would love to stay on Daylight Savings Time year round and have a bit of daylight after work.

it used to really bother me, especially when all my clocks were manual (setting them twice a year was just an extra inconvenience), and what's more, it messed with my rooteen (rather than doing something at what I thought was 9, it was earlier or later)

now I have a lot of automatic clocks, I'm not so bothered by it- plus: I do like the darker, earlier nights. just something comforting about snuggling yourself on the sofa, heating on, movie om, chocolate next to you

Almost every year in New Mexico a legislator introduces a bill to get rid of this time change thing that has been the bane of many since it was introduced many years ago. But the bill (a new one with new language every year) is not hyped enough so very few people know that it's been introduced until the newspaper announces at the end of the legislature session that it didn't even get to committee. What we really need is some legislators who know how to market their bills! That's probably better known as lobbying. Personally I'd just as soon have standard time year round.

Hi @ritanofsinger, all very true! I know in Florida there's a move afoot to have permanent daylight savings time but the only way that should happen would be the rest of the country also goes that route! If not, can you imagine the confusion that will abound with regard to TV and news programming, airline schedules, conducting business in other states, even ones that are next door? It's too much of a polyglot the way that stands.
To me the most sensible way would be for the nation to just set everything ahead by only a half hour and just keep it at that! Why just a half hour? There is a lot of press about the one hour jump from one day to the next leads to more personal stress, including an increase in heart attacks especially on days going from standard to daylight time including the resulting loss of one hour of sleep. A half hour difference wouldn't be quite as severe.

billiveshere -- That's very interesting. I've not heard that idea before. You know that Arizona doesn't change their time? They are on Standard time all year.

HI, Rita, You haven't heard that idea before because it was something I heard in passing some time ago and the more I think about it the more sense it makes! I think it's something that should satisfy everyone, no matter which camp you're in. And I've heard that about Arizona and I think some parts of Indiana (nearest to Chicago) also don't change their time.

Thats pretty neat that a state can decide if they want to follow it or not. I say give the people the power to choose.

Yeah, I’d like to see the entire nation vote on it. In UT the legislature has the power to strike down any proposition that is voted in favor of by the public; it sucks. So statewide props here are meaningless.

I always like the last few weeks before the time change because I can go ballooning without having to get my crew out there so early. Maybe that'll convince the Roundhouse!
