The evolution of incontinence products

Iv been urinary incontinent since birth due to Spina Bifida occulta. Iv had to wear diapers to school, and to work ever since. From the mid 60s to the early 80s I wore cloth diapers and rubber pants 24/7. Very bulky but I had to to attend school and then try to get a job. My fist job was at a nursing home where my mom Was the assistant manager. I was working in the laundry there for the next 3 years. Every product we used for incontinence in those days were heavy cloth and required a plastic or rubber pant. Until disposable diapers were quality made I still had to wear cloth due to my urine output is so high. By 2004 I was sold on disposable diapers iv not worn cloth unless I am low on disposable diapers and then at home only at 4-6 hr change times. Iv learned over the years that using the (time-change) method of diapering works best for ambulatory adults. Wearing diapers that will hold out longer between changes and still keep your skin in good condition is your goal. And when you diapers last longer between changes means you get more out of life instead of worrying about your protection holding out. Iv been using booster pads in my diapers for several years now and found that they protect my skin against diaper rash. And they add a lot of additional absorbency to your diapers. Iv been wearing the Betterdry diapers with the north shore boosters for both at night and for my daytime diapers I wear to work (9hrs). Thank god for disposable adult diaper market. I hope this helps someone out there

I have bladder-control problems that are the result of a surgical mishap when I was 14 years old. I’ve never been reliably dry at night since then. I wore cloth diapers with plastic pants 24/7 for about 3 years after the surgical problem but got to the point where I could generally go without a diaper during the day by the time I went away to university. That continued until I was in my forties when my daytime incontinence worsened and I had to go back to wearing 24/7. I’ve been quite pleased with the continuing development and improvement in adult disposable diapers. They make living with incontinence much easier.
