So a question

I’ve had constipation issues for as long as I can remember. Gastro is but one of many appointments that I have. Doctor of course thinks this might be the cause. The kicker is that ever since I have become pretty much fully bladder incontinent, my bowel movements have become far more regular. Before, it could be two weeks in between. At that point I would take something to move it along. Now, I’m going 5-7 nights a week. Nothing else has really changed in my life, in that regard. Any insight or thoughts into this?

Very similar story here, I've had constipation most of my life, but learned to control it with diet, it still comes and goes so to speak, but my urologist said my urinary issues were associated with the incontinence because the same muscles control both.

The problem I have with that in my case is that why haven't I been urinary incontinent all my life like I was constipated?

@soyeahandthat perhaps in your case that musculature has changed for the positive for your constipation but then caused urinary problems.

I have been urinary incontinent for 40-50yrs and bowels were more or less constipated.I now have some ibs with lose bowels.I guess the good thing is already in diapers due to being a diabetic.

There seem to be quite a few of us here with IBS as well as IC. There must be some link between the two? Phil

@sport that's the way to look on the bright side. I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy and I'd rather be urinary incontinent than utterly incoherent. Sadly I will soon be both.

I don't know why bowel trouble follows bladder issues, but my medical team seems to understand, especially my PCP, as if I have a urinary issue, she will run tests, or Foley cath. If its bowel, she will either have me come in for bowel irrigation with Lactulose, or if I'm plugged up she will admit me for a few days to irrigate me under her care. I find I'm more relaxed thanks to her and her care.
