Results of Urodynamics and Cystoscopy

That had to be the worst two hours of my life. Not only both the penis tube and the rectal tube the PA had to use a Catheter too. After you go through those uncomfortable tests. Then comes the doctor with Cystoscope. As I have posted I retain a huge quantity of urine along with IC. I had the probe done with laughing gas. It was best $95 I ever spent. You barely feel the probe going in or being removed. From the what the Urologist could tell even though my prostate isn't that enlarged it is pressing on the Urethra so I'm never emptying enough urine. On an outpatient basis at the surgical center near the office he is going shave part of my prostate away doing a TURP. I am going to have use catheter for one day. I don't how I'm going to deal with it. When I had the catheter inserted during the Urodynamics study it was so uncomfortable I wanted to pull it out. Looks like he can get me in 4-6 weeks from now. I am very apprehensive to do this but if I don't I'm going to lose use of my bladder completely.

My PSA is very low, .45 He said that is excellent for someone 73. I have low T which I have known about for 7 years. He gave me a prescription. I don't know if Medicare will cover it. He wrote it for the 1.62 pump. There is some club you can join for $99 a year that will supply you for $30 a month. It seems legitimate.

I have been urinating razor blades with shards of glass for almost 30 hours now. I have urgency to go about every 20 minutes. Here is the weird part. I have no IC issues in the last 30 hours either. No spasms. Could all those probes moved something internally that solved my IC problem. The burning pain is only supposed to last a day or two. I think I'm going to have issues longer than that now. You heal a lot quicker when your 40 then when your 70. Regardless if the IC problem is gone or not I still need the TURP. I can't do anymore damage to my bladder.

Update. My IC came back. Last night trying to sleep was terrible. As urine came out I got the burning sensation so much so that it woke me up. I had urgency return and I had to get up to use the bathroom. This is actually a good sign. Maybe after surgery I will wake up to use the bathroom again which means less urine in the diaper. Today is much better. Only a slight burn at the start of urination. My urethra is healing and should be pain free in the next day or two. My urine flow is fully restored as I'm urinating the amounts I did before.

As I posted I am dreading the TURP. How am I going to react to a catheter inserted in me for 24 hours. The operation takes 60-90 minutes which mean I will be under a long time. I go under when I have a colonoscopy but that is short duration. Probably 15 minutes. This is a major procedure. Still don't understand how they do it as outpatient. I asked the Urologist about doing it at hospital. He said not a good idea to be surrounded by sick people with a threat of infection. He is making the TURP as something minor. I don't think it is. I can tell you I took Tramadol which is just below morphine in strength and it did nothing to relieve the pain of having to urinate.

I have low expectations for the procedure and even the Urologist said as much. My bladder has been stretched holding excessive urine for probably decades. Asking it to return to it's former size and stopping my UI is asking a lot. It might take months to a year before I know if it actually works. If I can get back to just wearing a pad or some light protection during the day and a Depends a night I could live with that. Want to be able to sit at desk or sofa without urine coming out every few minutes.
