Quiet. Is everyone ok?

Relatively quiet the past few days. Hopefully everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Stay safe out there.šŸ˜Š

It has been a little quiet. I have been following the posts ā€œUrinary Tract Infectionsā€. It has been interesting and Iā€™ve learned some different ways to treat it with non-medicated treatments. As for insurance paying for incontinence pads, my experience is NO. I have Humana Insurance and they do not pay for pads. However, they do give you money to buy products from their over-the-counter store. In their store you can purchase stuff including incontinence pads. The pads are horrible. They leak terribly and are cheaply made, but they are basically free - to so I suppose, you get what you pay for. I feel insurance companies should pay for the best/good incontinence supplies if a doctor prescribes them. But alas - NO. That would be to much like right. Take care people and live life to the fullest. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.

Medicare, no. Medicaid possibly, depends on what state you live in. The VA might also pay for them. It will probably be a lower quality.

The VA will try and provide low quality but get an advocate and you can get whatever you want. Once I requested an advocate it took about 45 days for the better products to arrive.

Hope everyone who celebrates had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Was my first time traveling to visit with the in-laws since my incontinence issues started. They live about an hour and a half drive away from us, and we stayed about five and a half hours. Wasnā€™t sure how it was going to work out, but wore an overnight diaper all day and had a spare with me. Didnā€™t feel like I needed a change when it came time for the drive home so was a good day. Will plan to do the same for the upcoming family Christmas get-together.

The VA will provide diapers or pull-ups if you doctor writes a prescription for them and you are 30% or more they are free. I have tried both the diapers and pull-ups and in my opinion they are very cheap and terrible when it comes to leaking. Their catheters are good but be sure to ask for something for lube. I have also tried their penis clamps and condoms and I guess the are ok but very uncomfortable and not for me. I also had a suprapubic catheter inserted and I hated it for two reasons: 1. It restricted my mobility terribly because it is inserted into the abdomen and connects to a bag attached to the leg for urine collection. 2. It hurt me continuously. I felt like I had to pee badly even when my bladder was empty. However like I said the VA does provide incontinence pads by prescription but in my opinion the are not very good because they leak horribly. I hope this helps. Take care and live a great life.

Think the site was down over the weekend. Good that itā€™s back up!

In terms of whatā€™s happening with me, I went to some social things organised by an LGBT charity and hope to keep that up. Unfortunately, train strikes mean that I wonā€™t be able to make the upcoming meetings in December but I hope to make some in the future. Unfortunately, the options for socialising are pretty limited in terms of things during the day in accessible venues.

Went to a meetup in a coffee shop and it reminded me of why I pretty much gave up trying to get a social life via the Meetup site - venue was a bit of a nightmare access wise. No thought is really given to wheelchair users and people with decreased mobility when people pick venues. Quite a lot of groups Iā€™d love to go to but canā€™t.

Iā€™ll stick to the ones organised by the charity but it felt a bit heavy (was specifically for people with autism and ADHD) and wouldnā€™t have normally gone to it but it was good to get out. I think the thing is I donā€™t define myself by my disability and sexuality and so would just prefer a regular social group but getting out and socialising definitely helps and if I donā€™t keep those skills up I tend to take many steps back. There arenā€™t any other options and it took me an age to find out about London Friend.

Still waiting to hear back re my uni application - think thatā€™s the best way to get back out in society and my physio seems confident that doing that part time is doable next Autumn. They asked for my undergrad certificates so itā€™s being processed (albeit extremely slowly!). Would just like to know really.

I hope to do a voice acting course in February as a way of preparing for uni.

Am able to sim race more often so back doing that and whilst itā€™s virtual - racing in leagues over iRacing seems to be my best shot at a social life at the moment!

@Sci_Fi_Fan Congratulations on some improvements! Iā€™ve also been trying to socialize more often but have had strikes, no hits. But Iā€™ll keep trying. I agree that socializing is most vital!
