Post prostatectomy nighttime problems

Just curious if any of the other post prostatectomy guys out there experience what I am experiencing. I am 14 months post surgery. Have been 99% dry during the day since about 6 months post surgery.

Here’s the problem, I still wear a pad at night because I can’t trust my body. I recently went for almost three weeks awakening every morning to a dry pad. The other night I thought I would attempt a night without one but thought better of it. The next morning I had leaked enough that it would have been an issue without a pad. Then went a couple of nights dry only to awaken this morning with another leak.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I had RALP (prostatectomy) in Sept 2020 then male urethral sling surgery in Sept 2021. I leak on average a quarter ounce at night, but not during the day.

It took longer for my nights to get better after my prostatectomy.

Sorry to hear you are having leakage, but better to be safe with a pad than a wet bed.

I am a side sleeper and have allergies - I have wondered if I sneeze during the nights I have more leakage.

Alh,

As a matter of fact I have.

I am just at 11 months post RP. I am down to one pad a day and most of the time it is dry unless I sneeze, cough or laugh to hard. There is the occasional dribble but massive improvement over the first few months of recovery.

However,I have experienced the same issue you describe. I have tried to do a cause and effect analysis of what did I do different the nights of leaks over nights of non-leaks? I try to limit fluid intake after dinner and empty the bladder before going to bed. I will admit if I have any diuretic at dinner or after I am prone to leak during the night. Beer, wine, or alcohol are the culprits for me. Not always but that is the only difference between a dry night and wet one.

I'm hoping as I progress that I'll better tolerate those evening libations.

I wish I could offer advice here, but I’m the exact opposite. 4 1/2 months out. Negligible leaking at night, but rough during the day. Feel like the odd man out! It’s a fucking struggle for all of us.

I don’t drink any alcohol so I know that isn’t my issue. I drink (small drinks) water until bedtime every night. I have experienced what I thought I could attribute to iced tea with dinner but that is hit or miss. I noticed therefor a while if I missed my daily dose of Cialis that I would leak at night. Again that has been hit or miss.

I also wonder if I may be trying to get an erection in my sleep that may be causing it. In another thread it was discussed that with any progress toward an erection (being stimulated) some of us experience leakage.

I will admit I am terribly lazy about doing kegels.

I will admit that a pad at night is better than a wet bed an I will take dry during the day over at night. At least no one sees me in the bed. I don’t really think anyone ever noticed my pads anyway but if I don’t have one on I don’t have to fret that someone will notice.

I don’t leak much at night but without a pad there are times it would mean changing during the night.

I had my 18 month RARP and 6 month male urethral sling surgery follow up this week.

Urologist said that my night leakage probably due to night time medications. I leak about a quarter of an ounce every night.

If I take migraine medicine I may leak 1 or 2 ounces while normal leakage is a quarter of an ounce.
