Myrbetriq

Did nothing for me. Warning: if any of you are on Elmiron, there is a health warning out there where it has been found to cause macular degeneration. I immediately stopped taking it. Received two notices from my Urologist about this med.

Im on Myrbetriq. It's too early to tell if the effects will work. Im on day 3 of taking it. Urologist said it will take 3-4 weeks to show effects.

ALL medications have side effects. Each person will have to decide if they will be able to tolerate them. They may affect people differently. If a medication affected one person negatively, it needs to be listed as a side effect.

I take it at 50mg and honestly don’t know if it helps or not but I am slightly better than without. At least I think so. Lol.

I take so many meds and supplements basically 50 pills a days and my MS has been stable for the last 3.5 years so I am very skeptical of stopping anything as I am not sure what’s working vs not. Lol.

Hi @Kathylp, I don't know what Elmiron is (sounds like a city in upstate New York) :D but you definitely are wise to stop taking it! You don't want to mess around with macular degeneration!!! I have a macular pucker in my right eye. A few years ago I started to notice somewhat distorted vision and called my eye doctor and he said it wasn't macular degeneration but a macular pucker. He sent me to a retina specialist who confirmed it. I just saw him for a yearly exam a couple of weeks ago and also after I saw an optometrist about a year ago. Thankfully there is no macular degeneration. The specialist said it's stable now and my left eye is excellent. I had cataracts done a few years before that.
My health plan last year sent me to an optometrist (O.D.) who I knew nothing about. I told him I had this issue in my right eye. He insisted it was dry macular degeneration and that it would eventually go to my left eye. He said next to no research is being done and he painted a grim picture in a very unsympathetic, matter-of-fact manner. He had absolutely no chairside manner. But I didn't panic. I put in a call to the retina specialist and he saw me and gave me the good news and said he'd write a letter to the optometrist. I also complained to the insurance provider about this optometrist. I guess the point is, if you have any suspicion of macular degeneration do yourself a huge favor and see an ophthalmologist (either M.D, or D.O.) or a retinal specialist.

Myrbetriq helps me a fair bit. I don't remember the dosage offhand, but it's the higher of the two dosages they had available.

Elmiron is one of the few things that is FDA approved to treat interstitial cystitis. It didn't help mine enough to be worth the side effects, but I know it's helped a lot of people. That's sad news about it causing macular degeneration.

Im taking mybertiq. I take it at night. Ive noticed that their or generally more time between voids, I've also noticed more incomplete voiding. Other than that nothing too negative to report.

@digouro I didn’t have side effects from Myrbetriq, but it doesn’t work as well as Ditropan. Unfortunately, Ditropan has horrid side effects. So I’ve basically given up on all the incontinence meds, though I’ll still take Ditropan if I’m going to a movie, or for a long drive.

@Honeeecombs I had results from Myrbetriq within a few days. I hope it helps you eventually! Hang in there!
