Minor operation in a few weeks

Hi I am due for a minor operation in a few weeks on my lower stomach. I wear Tena Slip diapers ( I'm urinary incontinent all of the time.)Unfortunatley the diaper would be more than noticable during my op. Should i wear a pull up just for the time of the operation or just stick with my tape on protection ? I am just a bit concerned what the nursing staff might think. The pull-up wont be as noticeable as the Tena diaper will be. Thanks

I’ve had over 40 surgeries, and from my experience nurses have been pretty cool. I’m trying to think if I have had a bad experience. I have boatloads of medical trauma but don’t think I have had any issues, especially if I am up front about it. If your incontinence requires tape on diapers, the nurses will probably appreciate that you wear them to your procedure rather than use inadequate pull ups and deal with leaks.

Hope your procedure goes well.

Hi . Well thanks for the reply. Yeah I have decided to go with my usual Tena Slip diapers.
My hospital notes all mention that I suffer from urinary incontinence . And what ever protection i wear during my operation will be noticeable. So just as well stick with the Tena Slip.
Also I will be on laying on my back for about an hour so not sure how much urine I will leak. Might be only a small amount enough for a pull up to handle or in the worst case scenario an usual overnight wetting. 🥴

Afraid I do get very embarrasssed about my incontinence. So just the thought of the nursing staff seeing my diaper is extremley worrying . However it's not something I can do anything about this time.
I still get nervous when I need to speak with my continence advisor and that is after six years . :(

If its a needed thing, nurses, Ana's and even doctors won't bat an eye about it. Im not fully urinary incontinent but deffinately have to wear pull ups or tape ons due to urges, leaks and bushes. Ive been where you are, just be honest about it and they'll do what they can to make it a better experience for you.

Also, depending on where the surgery is at, most all abdominal surgeons require a catheter due to how close your bladder is to the procedure area. If they know you need "protection", they make sure you have a fresh diaper when you hit recovery. Ive had a bunch of medical staff see my diapers and pull ups, and yeah, I still get embarrassed but I've never had a negative experience. Im a strapping 30 y/o guy, who doesnt look like a guy who has to wear diapers.

Hope this helps, I wish you fortune and will keep ya in my prayers.

i DEFINITELY get the embarrassment. I’ve been wearing diapers since 2015 and while I have finally gotten to the point where I know that it’s nothing to be embarrassed about it’s literally a medical device I still get that nervousness when I am meeting a new doctor or something. It’s ingrained in our heads that “diapers are for babies “ and that is a really hard thing to undo.

You are definitely NOT alone.

My operation here on the NHS as been rescheduled for next Monday . Can't say I am looking forward to it but I suppose the earlier date will give me less time to worry about the procedure .
