Just in case

I am wondering if anyone on this forum wears diapers just in case? My incontinence is inconsistent/unpredictable. At times I feel I could venture out without being diapered. Most of the time, however, I chicken out. There have been times when at the end of the day my diaper goes unused. Then there are other days when I'm glad I was protected. How does one decide if it's going to be a good day, or a not so good day?

Unfortunately I cannot venture out without being diapered if I go out without a diaper on there is going to be a mess

Yes I can identify with that. Sometimes only the lightest shield will be ok for me. Other times that would be inadequate. If I'm going out I always see on the side of caution

I have found that wearing Depends provides a sense of safety. Very rarely do they get wet, but why take a chance and I don't feel uncomfortable wearing them. Even at the gym.

I used to play roulette during the days and realized how constantly stressed out I was about it and the consistent leaking problems. Went 24/7 17 years ago and have been very relieved I did.

I agree with the posts above: I’d rather be safe and not need protection than not have it when I need i.

A few months out from my rp I mentioned to my physiotherapist that most nights my pads were dry, he challenged me to just not use them and see how I went. I have not used night pads since then.
I have used a similar strategy with rest of my protection. Mostly it has worked and at the moment I do not use any protection at any time. There have been rough days on the journey, days where at some point I leaked and had to spend the day wet or damp and uncomfortable. I believe that I was training my mind to either cope or fix. I am now coming up to 2 years out and have strategies tried and practiced. Australian is coming into a long hot summer so it has become important to differentiate between a leak and sweat.

Can I say I am now continent, well some days are diamonds some days are stone, but in the main i am dry. On days I am not as confident heading out I’ll take some protection in my pocket, I’ve only had to use it twice.

If one can be patient, avoid the surgery and wait for our external aid that can be worn 24/7...in comfort. Please see any of my earlier notes, though the difference is that our development effort is now complete. We will shortly be seeking an industry partner to bring our aid to market. Best wishes. I've had some recent good and bad weeks and I've noticed that a good bedtime routine has correlated with less incidents at night, and I'm wondering if that is a coincidence or maybe related?

Of course. I wear just in case almost every day.

When I’m working around the house, inside or out, I can go without a diaper sometimes. Not necessarily the whole day though. If I start to leak, or void and then start leaking usually 5 or 15 minutes later, I’ll put on light protection or diaper up.

If I know I’m going to be out for any length of time I’ll put on my daytime pull-ups or even a full diaper.
I know that there are days that when my back is bothering me, or experiencing BPH issues, or there are beverages and longer travels involved, I’m likely to have more urge wetting.
But like you, some days I can go without wetting and other days it seems like I leak all day long.
I prefer to wear a diaper to be on the side of dry and comfortable whether I use it or not.

This week I’m traveling out of state in high heat Texas. I came down with a cold, maybe from someone on the plane?
Regardless, I’m finding myself this week constantly having the urge to go and wetting my pull-ups by day and experiencing heavy wetting at night. More than usual.
Taking cold meds, mentholated cough & sore throat drops and trying to stay hydrated.
Who knows, maybe the latest strain of COVID.

Better to wear protection than not in my case.

I wear diapers every day and night sometimes it’s light wetting most days it heavy wetting just can’t predict so I’m ok with wearing diapers it really doesn’t bother me after 30 years of being in them

I wear depends, and for the most part they work all day. But if I know I am going to be more busy physically on a certain day, I will wear one of those triangular pads inside my depends, and then toss it about four hours into the day leaving my depends feeling fairly fresh the rest of the day.

My issue is with occasional bedwetting so I am not wearing protection all the time. However if I am traveling on a long flight I will wear a pull-up type protection just in case. The chance of wetting when sleeping is higher when I am exhausted so on a long flight home after a busy and exciting trip there is that increase chance that I might fall asleep on the plane and that I might wet then too. So just in case I wear protection on a long flight.
