I'm back - spasm issue

Hey Guys,

I guess im back. My spasms are getting out of control. My Myrbertriq is no longer working and while i can hold my urine in for a period of time - the pain from the spasms are too much to bear.

I dont know what to do. Because im on Myrbertriq, its a little harder to release and relax - but the relaxation is the only break i get from the spasms.

I called the urologist and he said hes going to talk to me about other options, presumably botox or that nerve simulation device. But im way too young for any of that. Idk, maybe im not.

To be honest, im at the point now that the pain from the bladder spasms is far worse than the feeling of wetting yourself - so id take the latter any day of the week. I just dont want anything to do with either -

Is there any other options besides the two procedures? Idk at this point.

So sorry you are having such an issue. Understand able you are frustrated and in pain a hard combination to make decisions.
From the forum it appears the interstim device is a very successful option for bladder management and not painful to have instslled.

Sorry you're in this situation. FWIW, I am 71 and I had an Interstim installed 4 years ago. His office was never able to get it to help me as it should. I changed urologists and my new one said the Interstim is the last option they take in my situation. He then did a Green Light Laser procedure on March 4. That was to deal with BPH. Once I'm healed, he plans to get the Interstim working and getting it adjusted so it will deal with my OAB.

I've had great success, both with Botox and with Interstim. I started getting Botox around 2015, and I got my Interstim last November.

The Botox procedure is uncomfortable, and I'll be sure for a day or two afterwards. When they do the injections, I can get the pressure inside my bladder and it's not very pleasant, but it's not terribly painful either, and the procedure only lasts a few minutes. I'm one of the unlucky ones who has problems with urinary retention afterwards, but for me self-cathing is not a big deal. It took a week or two for my body to get used to having the catheter inserted, but after that it's not uncomfortable, and with the Botox I get far fewer of the extremely painful bladder spasms.

Interstim has been doing great. I've been able to completely so wearing diapers since late December, which is really, really nice. More importantly, I'm not getting the spasms at all - I completely agree that the pain of the spasms is far worse than the discomfort of having an accident, but now I'm loving having neither spasms nor accidents.

If you have questions about either procedure, I'm happy to share my own experiences.

Hey,

Thanks for your responses everyone;

@Itapilot:

This has me scared - and I don't want to make any moves just in case my bladder problems urgency goes back to "normal" Normally it's just a pressure. This is some of the first times where it's becoming an unbearable pain.

I don't want to make any sudden decisions but I also don't want things to get worse. I feel like my urologist is going to push the botox - but at the same time it doesn't sound pleasant. I guess that makes me a wuss lol.

I'm going to pray that things will get better and hope my urologist will have good news.

I've been on Enablex for some years. Not sure of generic name (if it has one). One in the evening, only one strength available. It may reduce the urgency/pain (in my experience), but my pain level was/is not as bad as yours sounds. Ask about it. Not sure if you can take one in the morning, too. My next neurology appointment depends on travel in commercial planes and living in Seattle area with it's expenses, getting another problem visit coordinated, and coordinating with wife's need to visit her doctors. Probably end of summer if Pandemic eases up. As you can see, I don't consider it urgent, more checking in & meeting insurance & Medicare requirements. I'm long overdue because of Pandemic and cost.
God bless.
