How to stop

Hi guys I'm 20 and sadly I still wet the bed occasionally. It happens about once every 3 days or so. I've talked to the doctor and he gave me some medication that makes people produce less urine after taking it. It worked well (not perfect though) bit after the medication was over it returned to the previous situation. I assumed I was a victim of Big Pharma and never bought it again, because what's the point if it doesn't CURE it? Here's my situation: I'm 100% healthy, don't drink or smoke or drink coffee, this problem comes from genetics (my dad, though he stopped when he was 16 and I still haven't 4 years after that). In his case, he stopped wetting the bed because his father beat him up frequently for that. That is to say, was fear alone that made him stop. Thankfully nobody beats me up for having this condition but I still need a solution. Do you guys think this is something that will just go away after a few more months/years? Thank you

If you still have it then I doubt it’s something you’ll grow out of. I’d suggest seeing a specialist. Urologiists are gonna have a lot more tools and knowledge than primary docs on this issue.

I'd like to tell you yes but I'm in the same boat. Some people stop and then it begins again which typically traces back to something that is fixable. I never truly stopped. I worked around the problem similar like when you took meds. The problem technically never went away. Have you seen maybe a urologist to make sure its not something physically wrong? I think that would be a good next step to determine if it physical or mental issue.

Most meds don't cure diseases, they simply treat them. With most meds, if you quit taking them, it's perfectly normal for your symptoms to return.

The point isn't to be "cured." The point is to have an improvement of symptoms that outweigs the negatives of taking meds, such as cost and side effects.

It may be that the medication they gave you isn't the right one. The fact that it improved your symptoms is a promising sign, so you might find your symptoms completely gone if you adjust the dose, switch meds, or add a second med. I agree with other posters, you may want to consider seeing a specialist.

I hope you're able to find something that works for you!

Alois- have you tried the alarm system? This worked in our family. It takes consistency and a sacrifice of however long it takes, but it might work for you too.

Bladder medications have to be taken forever; they only work for up to 24 hours after taking them. I’m sorry your doctor misled you about that.

Unfortunately from what I’ve read from others your age here on the forum, you will likely have this for the rest of your life. But I highly recommend you see a urologist and get labwork done to make sure you don’t have something like cancer.

When you are ready to embrace wearing protection, we will be here for you.
