Hospital visit, vomiting and diarrhea, sore butt

So I’ve had vomiting and diarrhea for the past month. Every day. And diarrhea 6-10 times a day. I haven’t been able to get into a gi doctor. Thursday I had floaters in my left eye (still do) so my primary care doctor sent me to urgent care. I got there and had a 100 degree fever, discovered that I had lost 12 pounds and they sent me to the hospital. I waited at the hospital for approximately 5 hours and finally got to a room. They wanted to do a urine sample but since I can’t control my bladder they did it via catheter. I cried it hurt so bad. They are still waiting on the culture, but other than that everything came back ok. They even did a cat scan to make sure I wasn’t having a stroke and that was normal as well. (And apparently I have a brain! Hahah) so I finally got discharged at 7:30 am with a big “I dunno!” From the doctor. I have an appointment with capital digestive care on June 9th (earliest they could get me in somewhere) so I’ll have to just be patient. I haven’t vomited in 2 days but still have tons of diarrhea. My butt was super sore yesterday but I took a long bath and used barrier cream wipes and some diaper rash cream and it feels sooooo much better today. It’s always something isn’t it? But I woke up today and I’ve got my kitty is it’s all good.

That you even have the strength to write to us is amazing! I'm so grateful that you woke up today ... and that you feel so much better! And how sweet that you have your kitty with you. I wish pain-free wellness for you soon.

With that much diarrhea, make sure you font get dehydrated! Ask if you can also be put on acall list in case someone cancels an appointment. Maybe you can get in earlier.

Justej, sorry for all you're going through, but nice to see you still have your sense of humor. I'm still recovering from sepsis in March and waiting to get three hernias fixed on June 1st. It amazes me how there can be so many hospitals and doctors, yet one has to wait 30 days to see someone. Keep on putting the cream on your butt. Is there any chance you can put yourself on an "if someone cancels list" to see the digestive care person before June 9?

Yea I’m on a waiting list. I’m going to see my family for the first time in over a year and a half on May 19th. We have rescheduled my trip twice now due to covid so I can’t be seen by the doctor until before the 19th or after the 27th.

May the 19 is less than two weeks so you have something to look forward to now! And a year and a half is a long time to not be able to see your family. I'm sorry you had to go to the hospital and good that your tests were normal other than whatever the culture is going to show. And also good they examined your head and found nothing there as well!!!:D (yes, good to know you really have a brain!!)
So take care and try to rest up a bit this weekend.

Hope you get feeling better. I sure know how bad it sucks to have diarrhea all the time. I keep cream, baby wipes, and the big adult wipes with aloe in my bathroom for just that reason. I have had times where I had 10 bouts of diarrhea in just two hours. Yea, you almost wish you would just pass out so the pain would go away.

Right now I am waiting to see my doctors again next week due to blood work coming back way off.

This all sucks a lot.

ej - you've undoubtedly tried a lot of things for the diarrhea but I just came across a little blurb in an old magazine that 3 tablespoons of dried blueberries, chewed thoroughly, can stop diarrhea in its tracks. The blueberries contain pectin, a binding agent that supposedly solidifies loose stools.
Maybe worth a try.

Sure, why not? It's natural and it shouldn't be costly! Sometimes the cheapest and most basic thing is the best!!! So if it were me, I'd give it a try!!! After all, blueberries, dried or otherwise, can't hurt you!!!
