I have a complex history of stress incontinence. Approx. 13 years ago, I had mesh sling surgery due to incontinence while working out, sneezing, bending, etc. It worked well for 10 years. Started to have reoccurrence of incontinence and my Dr. then gave me an injection of Bulkamid. This was a little over a year ago. It seemed to work well up until 8 months later. I developed a blockage on my urethra which they found in the emergency room after much pain and little ability to urinate. A week later, surgery to remove the blockage which was like a fluid filled bubble. My Dr. has submitted reports to Bulkamid as she believes this occurred due to the Bulkamid. Now, 5 months after surgery I have no control over my urination at all. That started a week or so after my surgery. I have to use depends as I leak all the time. I never feel the urge to pee as I am constantly leaking..
Now, I am set to have another sling, done with my own tissue vs mesh in January. I have a 20% risk of having to self-catheterize the rest of my life (I am 67). That risk is worth it to me as what I am going through now is so horrible.
I am just hoping the autologous fascial sling will cure my incontinence. If this does not work, I don't know what else can be tried.
Any thoughts from anyone?
Thank you.
