External catheter or clamp

I am not one to say, i have tried everything more than once. I believe I like depends with a extra absorbent pad is the safest way to go. Do kegels, walking walking and ab excercises will work. I am now going into my 10 month and i have gone from 5 to 8 pads a day to now 1 to 2 a day with light leakage. Everybody is different on how they heal, you have to work the programs. Do your kegels, walk that will help tighten your lower abs. Do ab workouts start slow and work up give your body a helping hand in healing.

Thanks Parone. Currently that is what I am doing (5-6 per day). Just looking for options. Especially for work. Doing Kegel program from Michelle Kenway. I also walk a lot everyday. That is when my incontinence is worse.

I have been in your shoes, finding something comfortable and not obvious at work is essential. I almost always wear a Megamax diaper for most things but for work and travel I use a condom catheter. I had MANY issues with them popping off but found that there are "long seal" or extended seal options, essentially twice the adhesive zone, these work REALLY well. Like all day NO worries well. I wear a larger leg bag on my lower leg, I have messed with the disposable ones but the Urocare reusable are the best and have so many sizes. I like the large capacity long one because when full it is not as noticeable. I buy tubing and custom cut it to length. it does take a little trial and error, happy to help with more ideas but this is what works for me and is discrete. Downside, you have to use this as the way you go to the bathroom, no taking on and off but that is not to say you cant practice control, leak and then use the restroom at your convenience. Total game changer for me to be comfortable and literally not have to worry about it. I wear a lycra boxer and it holds everything close and the tube is not even noticeable - this is key to making sure you dont get kinks and a blow off. Good luck, happy to help!

Update June 7, 2022. I used the clamp for months 4 and 5 (Jan - Feb 2021) after RALP in Sept 2020

I used the Lunderg Confidence Clamp for a few months - I just needed relief to get from home to doctor appointments without soaking a pad every time I got out of my car.

9/14/2022 Lunderg IN STOCK - updated link at bottom of post

The Lunderg is out of stock. I recommend trying the Wiesner Incontinence Clamp ($35 on Amazon 6/7/2022). It has different size bottom pads to control the pressure on the urethral and not the whole penis.

Both Lunderg Confidence Clamp and Wiesner Incontinence Clamp have 3 sizes bottom pads with a dimple that presses on the urethra to stop urine flow. The top pad does NOT have a dimple. Both use medical grade silicone rubber to cover the bottom and top pads.

It states to release and readjust every 1-2 hours and NOT for overnight use.

I started out wearing the clamp for a few hours a day and added time before using the clamp outside of the house. I wanted to determine correct bottom pad size; pressure (4 locking positions); and how it felt sitting, standing, and walking.

Watched the pressure - I use "for Small" bottom clamp and click it in the second hole. I am able to press the head of my privates and the skin discolors and recolors appropriately. Not to tight to cut off circulation, but has been doing the job.

6/7/2022 Lunderg Clamp out of stock - I suggest trying the Wiesner Incontinence Clamp which is very similar with the different size bottom pads.

Tried my first external catheter today. Any tips to keep it from kinking at the connection? And has anyone tried the shorts that hold urine bags or the calf sleeve?

I have a few Coloplast active bags to try. They say single use and seen very expensive to me. Any advice? Does anyone clean and reuse?

Advise not to clean and re-use. Use new one daily.holister do a great leg bag worn at the ankle and that can be washed and re-used.

This is a contraption that I came up with if I'm going to be out for a few hours:

While at home or during short outings I use folded paper towels covered up with shortened plastic sanitary napkin bags held in place with small rubber bands.

I use the Urocare reusable, last a long time, they make a cleaner solution you should buy. Expensive but work really well. As for kinks, I wear on lower leg and run the tube from about my knee up the back/outside of my leg and make a gentle right hand angle to my beltline and attach. I wear a lycra boxer that holds the tube and everything else in place (also hides tube), This approach is pretty much kink proof sitting or standing. Note, you will likely need to buy tubing that is not pre-made and you add an end to it, needs to be longer than they send with the kits. PM me if you need more info. here is Urocare, I use the 9532 https://www.urocare.com/EN/Products/UrocareLtxLgBgsEN.php

I use the Coloplast active bag everyday for 7 days I wash it internal at night with a bit of liquid soap and warm water from the tap . I rinse it internally twice and then hang on the towel rail to dry .The pipe shouldn’t kink it’s quite robust . Try placing the bag in your pocket with a small hole from pocket thro undies to sheath . Works a treat for me would not even feel it was there after fitting . You will be nervous at first thinking it might leak but after a few weeks you become very confident and it all becomes second nature . I wouldn’t like to think I had to use anything else it changed my life . Have been using about 12 months

Thank you for the ideas. Just couldn’t afford to buy one for 7 days a week. The price I got was almost $9.

No I use the same one for 7 days Im pretty sure I read that was ok .. I’m sure it is .. so $ 9 a week a little over $1 a day

Just checked the recommendations on the box of the Active .. it does say one use . I have been using them for a yr now on a 7 day turn around . It was the Coloplast consultant in my first interview that told me that was ok if cleaned properly

My understanding is that the leg bags can be used for up to a week. Obviously the condom catheter is new each day

This is a contraption that I came up with when I'm going to be out for extended periods:

There are a lot of solutions out there and it seems that we all have our own way of using our contraptions. The Urocare latex bag looks great and thanks for sharing that, may buy privately sometime and try but worried about the pulling and sloshing sound when I walk and not near a toilet to drain.
