Doctors appointment tomorrow!

For those of you, I don’t know. I have been dealing with incontinence most of my life, but it got worse. Once my mother was in the hospital a few weeks ago and I’ve been living with my grandmother. They were able to get me some type of doctors appointment tomorrow.

My accidents have gotten significantly worse since my mom went into the hospital and the medication that I was taking doesn’t do much good.

What are some things I ask the doctor or maybe even recommend for medication that works for you guys? Thanks in advance.

Glad you are proactive in moving forward.
I'm sure you will get some good advice here.

I would tell you to be aware Clayton that not all doctors are well trained to deal with incontinence so don't expect the results of the visit to provide a "cure".
Definitely tell them your family members, (sisters etc)have similar incontinence leaks.

Tell the doctor about how it seems to become more frequent when you are stressed.

It's great you are getting resources to the problem.

There are some side effects to these medications. Ask about how to handle that. I would also ask about pelvic floor physical therapy. It is not cheap in my experiance but it may be covered by Medicaid which you should be able to get in your situation. It can work wonders.

Correct me if I am wrong but I assume the medication you are taking was prescribed by your GP/Medical Practitioner so hopefully the doctor your grandmother has arranged for you to see is a urologist. If so he/she will be a specialist in this area and be a lot more understanding and able to help you. They will definitely want to know what has been happening with your bladder but also in your life more generally especially as it seems to have got worse since your mum went into hospital. Ask them about other meds, any dietary things to consider and also advice on how best to help you manage it in terms of protection. They will probably ask you to keep a diary of fluid intake and when and how much you wee too. The main thing is that you are taking action to find out what’s wrong so that’s great. Hope that helps and that it goes well.

If you can find out if you and your sisters are covered by medicaid
Areoflo urology provider has free underwear for those with Medicaid

On one of your specific problems, I was just wondering myself if the doctor could help with information or pointers on free supplies? Or refer you to someone who could?

That’s where we are very lucky in the uk. I get my Tena Slip products supplied free on the National Health Service.

Medicaid will help those of less means here in the US but it’s not “on by default” ya have to sign up.

I would echo the advice from Newbie2this regarding the side effects, because some of them are very serious- these meds are anticholinergics which have proven connections to dementia- but also, some have very unpleasant effects like dry mouth and cognitive problems. Your incontinence is likely a symptom of other issues that can be resolved, so I wouldn't panic, but sometimes protection is the best managing tool while you and your doctor figure out what is going on. I wish you well.

The thread re Myrbetryc talks a bit more about the side effects, and the fact that these meds don't always work. This is not the first time I have read someone saying, 'There was improvement, but I still have to wear protection, so why take chances?'

Just got home from doctor. He gave me AZO some to try until my blood results come back. He wasn’t sure if the stuff would work or not, but asked me to try it. I explained to him everything going on and he believes stress is a factor as well as y’all have pointed out.

My grandma still thinks it’s all a joke and that I wasn’t trained correctly as a kid and my mom coddled me. And I’m too lazy to just use the bathroom on my own. She made some rude remarks while at the doctor

Someone suggested protection to wear. I do wear pull-ups. So trying to find what fits me best right now. The Goodnites is what I’ve always used, but my grandma is prob gonna switch to buying me the depends
