I am Urinary Incontinent and if I have to go into the hospital; Will the hospital keep me in diapers? I have a prescription for and already wear diapers 24/7?
I had two week long hospital visits this year. During your intake, a nurse should go over any health issues. The checklist I filled out had incontinence on it. They asked what type you have, how you deal with it, etc. It is a little harrowing, but they deal with incontinence in hospitals regularly so they won't be shocked. I brought my own, but I think they had institutional Tena.
It’s been a while but one hospital insisted I have a catheter when I was in for a week and another let me wear what I wanted and changed me when I wasn’t able to, after surgery and while under anesthesia. After I came around and was aware enough I changed myself, although they did continue to offer. I think it all depends on the hospital but maybe nowadays they are better about the patients choice.
Depending on why you’re there, they will most likely insert a Foley catheter (unless you tell them not to). Bringing you own diapers is the best bet because the ones they use are worthless.
I would hope I wouldn't have to use a catheter. So hospitals will let you bring your own diapers or use theirs? Will the nurses change or help you change your diapers if needed?
Hospital for 3 weeks and no choice, including no "checklist" at start. Everything was their convenience and if you asked questions, somehow it was all due to avoiding liability. The kind was open/flat, fastened with those sticky strips, disposable. Often didn't work where the pull-up briefs would have. There was noreasoni couldn't have just used the bathroom - except "liability". That wasn't the only thing wrong with that hospital. The only way I'd go back is if I'm unconscious. My prior experience at hospitals was really the complete opposite.
Bring your own. They should help you put them on if you can't.
I am going to have surgery for my broken arm which didn't heal after 6 months. The pre-op nurse told me she didn't know what the hospital had, and to bring my own. I have never had surgery, nd I'm feeling anxious.
When I was hospitalized early this year, they didn't have any diapers, and my friends brought mine to me.
I recently spent eight days in the hospital. I am a large woman and they had NOTHING useful for me. I have had some overnights for procedures and have insisted on a catheter (had to lie flat for many hours). As soon as I got settled in the room, they wanted to take it out. No. It won’t be pretty and nobody will be happy...
I ended up in the hospital for 3 days out of state on vacation. Staff there were great, no issues with my wife bringing my own diapers in as theirs were horrible. They checked/changed me as need.
I've been in the hospital a lot and I echo bring your own diapers. I learned the hard way and they ended up once having me in both pull ups and their crappy diapers. Since then I've always brought my own and have never had a problem.
If I bring my own diapers or use the hospitals;what percentage likelyhood or not, will a nurse help you change your diapers Does it depend on what condition you're in the hospital for? How often will they change you if so?
Not sure why you would want a nurse to change you if you dont have to. I've had nurses change me in the hospital due to the fact that I couldnt get out of bed or really move around on my own and it's super embarrassing. Same goes for my home health aid. Some days I really struggle and she helps but I try to be independent.
I'm just saying, if I needed help changing my diapers while in the hospital; what is likelihood or not that they will help me change my diaper? How attentive are they to helping someone change a diaper when needed? Not that I would be exactly thrilled for them too but if I did need help and had a condition where I couldn't change it, it would be good to know how willing they are to help me.
Hospitals vary - if possible, call or visit ahead. Some give you choice, and some don't. The last one i was in, they didn't give choice - they did it - and it made no sense. Waste of a good nurse's time, and the taxpayer's dollar. All in the name of "liability" fears. Nothing could be out of their control.
So you're saying that some hospitals and nurses give you the choice of whether or not you want them to change your diapers. If you told them you were incontinent and wear diapers 24/7 what % likelihood would they would change you compared to you having to change yourself?
Does your medical history say you are incontinent? You said you have a script for them? You can buy them over the counter?
Honestly I wouldn't worry about it, you most likely have a waterproof pad under you if you are.
