Diaper odor

Curious what some of your experiences have been with smells from used prodcuts? meaning do you throw away (outside) every soild diaper? I live with someone and he does not know that I wear at night, so if I am leaving in the morning and he's home do not want to carry it down stairs with him in the kitchen or have it be in the kitchen trash can for him to notice, or me go to carry it outside and him see me. I do not think he would mind nor do I if he finds out but still it is something I have chosen to keep to myself. Does anyone have any suggestions on I guess concealing the smell also? we share a condo and it is hard to hide the smell of urine.

Don’t really have an easy solution for you.

Not sure if getting a diaper pail for your room would be beneficial other then it would forsure deal with your odor concerns and it would minimize the number of times you would have to take it to the garbage however it would be a much larger bag. ;)

Another option which I use when out is just put my used diaper in a plastic grocery bag and just put it in my backpack so I may dispose of it when it is convenient too me.

When we travel, I use disposable diapers. At the hotels, I put my used diapers in small wastebasket-sized trash bags, and tie them shut. There's never an odor problem.

I would suggest you keep a supply of plastic shopping bags in your room, put the used brief in one and slip it into the sleeve of a sweatshirt, or windbreaker which you carry over your arm until you are out of his line of sight, put it in the garbage can on your way out and then you can forget it.

This brings back memories when I rented a room in a family home. The way I got over it was to put it in some sort of plastic bag or scented nappy bag and put it in my bag and throw in a bin in the street up the road. Don't store them up in your room or they will start to smell bad. Get rid of them daily to keep the smell to a minimum. Bless you and hope you will get your own place one day soon.

I use cheep ziploc 1 gallon bags and that seems the smell in.then when full put in grocery bag and depose of it with trash

I use a spray, like Lysol or Febrile when I put a used diaper in the trash. Now I use a lot of diapers because I am totally incontinent, but this does help to keep the smell down. Also, sometimes if the smell is particularly bad, I ask to be tested for a UTI. Hope this helps.

@graphicedge ,
Exactly right about the uti. I noticed sometimes the brief had a chemical or weird odor and it turned out I had a uti. No other symptoms just the odor difference. Have to stay on top of those

Get in the happy of carrying a backpack or messenger bag with you when you leave the house every day. Put the used diaper in a ziplock or plastic bag, and take it with you, along with whatever you need for the day, and throw it away discreetly. Also if you are going to be living together for a long time, it might be easier to just come out and say something. It is hard and stressful to live in a situation where you constantly have to keep secrets, and track every move. If he is a good roommate and a friend he will understand.

The times I’ve been in a more confined situation I’ve just gone ahead and shared my issue with whomever was necessary. Like sharing a hotel room. I’ve never gotten any negative reaction. This has happened maybe 10 times before and I usually get e few questions, just out of curiosity or concern. Every time the result has been “I don’t have a problem with that”. We share this private matter but I think we overly concern ourselves about what others might think.

I guess it would depend on how many products you get through. If it's only one a night then you could get black nappy sacks and throw them in a public bin every day. I was sharing a flat when I started using products and would just put used products in the apartment block bin on a daily basis. A tip re odour is to stay hydrated, it may seem counterintuitive (and I'm bad when it comes to this) but it really cuts down on smell.

I'm getting through a fair few products since my issues got worse and my setup is that I have a bin in my room and then two big rubbish bins in the bathroom where I put used products when my bedroom bin is full. Whilst I live alone, I tend to throw my overnight/morning nappy in a bin on the way to work as I tend to flood the second I get up and then the morning coffee goes straight through me. Plus, we only get garbage collections every fortnight here so I don't know how I'd cope without getting rid of some of the 'worst offenders' as it were. It's a struggle as it is!
