Can you have overflow and stress incontinence?

In my continuing journey to understand what is happening with my neurogenic bladder and and the leaks I have it seems to me that I have overflow and stress incontinence. Doc says no and it’s all overflow. OK, I get it I have high PVR and severe retention. When I’m overfull and there are leaks it’s overflow. Yup. Easy.

Well, now that they have me using catheters the leaks were supposed to stop. No they don’t and often right after I cath and there can’t be much of anything in there. Move around etc. and tons of leaks. Classic stress incontinence. Doc says can’t be, we saw nothing on the urodynamics test and the 2 don’t happen at the same time. Well you had me cough and that won’t do it. Let me climb the stairs or bend down and watch it run out.

I can’t find anything to support or disprove what he is saying. All I know is it happens and that today I was glad to have listened to everybody that says to always wear protection. Really needed it today out shopping.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I have heard that you CAN have 2 types of u.i. What combination may be the question, but let's face it- if you have symptoms of two different types, then, yes, obviously it is possible. Give your body time and you will be able to assess it better. It may not be worth winning the argument if you have a good doctor. Only you can decide that. And others here may be able to tell you for sure.

To me at least, depending on the extent of your activity during the day, you can have both. I can be active, have to pee, and then leak afterwards. But only during the day. At night I can get up and pee, and go back to bed and then nothing. As time goes on I leak less climbing stairs. Still a pretty decent leak issue when out walking or trying to work around the house that causes bending twising, lifting, and etc. I cannot stay dorment during the day so I have to live with that until more time passes hopefully. I do think the pelvic floor exercises helps slow it down as you go, but that requires a lot of patience over time to be effective. I will be at the one year mark the beginning of April and am hoping I am alot more comfortable with the overall progress. But hard to say. Too many mixed opinions on the different possible surgeries available. And some I have read on well into year 2 and still dealing with it. So no clear cut answer it semms.

My PcP feels like I have both stress and overflow in both areas. With U.I. I tend to have no signs that I have to go. Or I could have just went a something triggers me to go more. I sometimes have full bladder voids all at once for no apparent reason. My bowels are overflow and stress. If I try to use any of my core muscles I risk losing my bowels. I don’t have what meditation my bowels want figured out yet so I always have overflow.

That just sucks. Maybe I should stop complaining about my little irritations.

@jeffswet

complain away. everyone of us are dealing with different things and how we deal with it is also different. Some people are just better at keeping things to themselves. I share here because it helps me to know that others are dealing with the same thing that i am.
