Bladder Infection (U.T.I.)

Got bladder infection mid-February. Went to an urgent care clinic. Was prescribed an antibiotic. Was called 3 days later. Urine culture came back. Wrong antibiotic prescribed. Was prescribed right antibiotic this time: Macrobid. Was the only one I could take for E. coli, given all my antibiotic allergies! Took 2 capsules for 5 days. Bladder infection came back 2 weeks later. Macrobid for 5 days again. Just finished last capsule. Dr. Alan said got it due to my Fecal Incontinence. Have had FI since 2018, so why UTI now? Anyone else told this? Can it be due to anything in diet too? Anything else? Don't want to keep getting bladder infections!

Do you have an enlarged prostate? That was my problem. Had 65% of it removed via Green Light Laser Surgery and UTIs stopped. Also, the many times I've been given Macrobid it was for 10 days. Hope this helps.

Ask for antibiotics for 10 consecutive days, otherwise the UTI is unlikely to clear. See a urologist about it, not an urgent care. Urologists have microscopes right in their office and can get the anabiotic you really need right off the bat, which can save you a lot of suffering.

So, I should have taken Macrobid for 10 days. Well, if I get another bladder infection, will request referral to Urologist. So UTIs common with incontinence & FI. Great news to hear!! Oh well, just part & parcel I guess.!!!

I hate to disagree, but, I rarely get UTIs and not at all since my UI got so much worse (7 or 8 years). I always assumed it had more to do with the use of catheters (in-dwelling). So what is the connection? Is it possibly more with females than males?

jeffswet -- What does UI mean? Don't know about stationary catheters, but would make sense they are prone to infections. I do believe that women get more bladder infections, given the anatomy.
