Being your own advocate

Hello friends.
Just thought id stop by and give some advice to those suffering from the unknown with their issue .
In the past ive had overactive bladder
Been to the ER over 8 times within 8 months since my issue started.
Multiple ct scans and mri and also 2 visits to urology and nothing but "you have luts or bph!" im also only 37 btw.
It took a good doctor/nurse to finally put me on meds for prostatitis.
I am oab symptom free over a month.
I still have pain in my pelvic area and burn in rectal area and sometimes during urination.
I believe i suffer from chronic prostatitis/pelvic pain syndrome.
All the symptoms were there all along.
The one that separates what i have from the rest is no bacteria and it wax and wanes a or comes and goes a hallmark symptom of cpps.
With health issue-
I honestly believe you have to be your own health advocate.
No one is looking out for you.
I didn't go to school to be a urologist either did a nurse practitioner at the urgent care that helped me.
She helped more and listened better than my primary, urologist and ER.
I've since joined a support group for us that suffer from pelvic pain syndrome.
No matter what God is with us and hasn't forgotten about us in our times of pain and frustration.

Ive said before and I will say it again; most urologists just get thru the day and dont look for trouble. So much education they lost common sense. Been there myself as has my brother. They even wanted to do prostste biopsie on hom every 4 months, knowing he was on Coumadin. And his previous 3 biopsies showed one area of 12 affected and it was only Gleeson 6. I got him to my guy who told him they dont even do a second biopsy on single gleason 6. The previous doctor my brother had was willing to put my brothers life on the line so he could get billable services. Asshole

The title of your post says it all.
Glad you found some medical support that is caring and intelligent.
Sorry you have pain as well as OAB but perhaps this too can be managed now that you have some intelligent medical folk working with you.

You're right. You do have to be your own advocate especially if you're single like me (that's just how life has worked out). Only you can watch out for yourself. I know no one is going to do it for me. It's me and no one else! And if you see something that isn't right, for God's sake, speak up!! And if you find a medical type person who you feel is on your side then so much the better! Good luck to all of us acting as our own medical advocates!
