Back in Diapers Before 30

After a year of living in denial, I am finally at a place where I can admit that I need to wear adult diapers because I can no longer control my bladder or bowels.
I’ve only been in diapers 24/7 for one month now, but I can already tell my anxiety over accidents has lessened and I’m a bit more confident at work.

Yes I feel really embarrassed to admit that I cannot make it to the toilet like a “normal” almost 30-year old, but after some even more embarrassing public incidents I am beginning to understand that a soiled diaper is much less humiliating than soiled pants.

If anyone else is young and using adult diapers, I’m here to say you’re not alone. I’m always happy to make friends, so feel free to reach out!

Update time!
I have been wearing adult diapers 24/7 for about 2.5 months now.

My incontinence issues are the same as they were 2.5 months ago. Severe OAB, I get a sharp urge then start wetting seconds later, and stress incontinence that causes me to leak when I move around or cough. I also have days where I leak small amounts constantly, and those days are rough because I have to constantly monitor my diaper.

Bowel incontinence wise, I am having most accidents in the morning or while asleep thanks to a bowel program. Sadly it’s not perfect and I still have day time accidents 1-2 times a week. If it happens in public I immediately head to the bathroom so I can finish my accident in private then clean up. If I can’t clean up in a timely manner I just move plans around and go home to change. Sometimes this causes me to miss events and that really sucks. But overall, I am still trying to be social and stay active, there’s just so much more planning required now that I use diapers.

I’m gradually building up my diaper friendly wardrobe. I have plenty of onesies and plastic pants and diaper covers, but I’m still shopping for nicer diaper friendly pants.
I mostly wear long loose skirts out in public, especially to work. Now that it’s winter I can wear leggings under a skirt and it’s stylish and warm. If I can dress more casually, I might wear leggings with a tunic top or oversized hoodie (both tops which cover my butt). I also have plenty of sweatpants that hide my diaper bulge but I can’t wear those in all situations.
So yeah, I mainly need a pair of dress pants or jeans I can wear with diapers.

I felt just like you the shame embarrassment and all the emotions that go with incontinence. However accepting diapers as a way of getting a normal life as possible means that I am in control over it not the other way around.

Being male is more challenging however have adapted my wardrobe to find jeans (M&S 🇬🇧) that provide the necessary stretch and onesies to hide the tell tale diaper waist line.

Skirts and Skorts can hide and give the important modesty needed.

I had to have all of my work pants tailored to accommodate my diapers. I was a little embarrassed, telling my Tailor at first, but after it was all said and done, I was happy that I did it.

That is a good idea!
Maybe adding a gusset in the groin area could help jeans fit over protection more smoothly. I’ll have to ask a tailor about that.

I was 35 when i started to have accidents. It was tough at 1st. Now after 25 years im an old pro lol.

Wow that is pretty young to have incontinence issues.

If you could give your younger self advice regarding incontinence, what would you say?

My incontinence journey started at the age of 13 when my whole life changed forever it was so very hard to accept especially when it could have been avoided if medical professionals had done the right things. 36 years ago there was no internet I felt so alone navigating the world of diapers and everything that goes with them. I was always put with the girls at school playing sports think teachers did not know what to and grouped periods and incontinence together the girls were just great though. I came across a lovely lady in the pharmacy (no home delivery back then my continence team told my parents that I had to go and collect my own diapers as part of my acceptance journey) who said to me that yes I do have incontinence but incontinence does not me and diapers put me back in the driving seat she was so true.

I wet the bed as a child and as a teenager up to age 14. I was then dry until I suffered a spinal injury in my mid 20s when I started to wet the bed again. Initially a few nights a week but after a few months every night. After unsuccessfully trying various meds my nurse continence adviser suggested I wear adult nappies at night. On the one hand that was not too big a deal as I had been in nappies at night as a teenager but on the other it was very isolating as I was embarrassed or probably more scared to stay away overnight. It also made forming relationships difficult. Eventually when I was 30 I met the person who would become my wife of now 31 years. It was embarrassing but as soon as I knew this was a serious relationship I told that I wet the bed and had to wear nappies at night. She was immediately so understanding and never made a big deal of it, so I knew she was a keeper! Roll the forward 20 years or so and I started to lose daytime control as my spinal issues worsened. So I was then wearing nappies during the daytime too. Now I have no feeling of needing to wee or actually weeing except feeling my nappy get wet! I am very lucky that I get my nappies supplied FOC on the NHS. I soon accepted that this was the way it was and that wearing nappies was infinitely better than the embarrassment of wetting myself and wet clothes. Now they are just part of my everyday/night clothing and let me lead a pretty normal and active life. So I am grateful for that.
