Anxiety after UTI

Hi

I had the worst UTI last year, which hss led me to have minor anxiety. When I first had the UTI, I was peeing every 5 minutes day and night. Was awful!

Now, when I'm at home, I'm absolutely fine but when I go out, I have to wear a Tena Lady Pad incase I have an accident. I have never had one before..

I know it's my mind playing tricks but is there any remedies??

Hi Puja,
Good to hear from you. UTI’s are pretty miserable for sure. Sounds like you are taking a reasonable safeguard to minimize the anxiety of a leak if it happens. Makes perfect sense, many of us do that.

If you do have a minor leak you are being proactive in staying dry and either way you are keeping your stress level down.

You could talk to your doctor and see what they can suggest to help with anxiety, and if you are having leakage there are some good generic medicines to help with that too and plenty of excellent absorbent pads, etc to let us get on with daily life.

Hope you find a suggestion on these boards that can help you. Be well and stay healthy.

Kind regards,
Jim

Hi Puja,

I was the same after spending a week in hospital with one. I came out and was so obsessed with trying to be as clean as possible when catheterising to begin with but I can tell you it will pass and in time, you will settle back down to a normal routine.

Many ladies wear a slim pad in their underwear for protection so don't feel like you're on your own. If the pad gives you confidence and security, so be it.

Hi,

Yes I'm slowly challenging myself,i went for a 20 min walk yesterday wearing a sanitary towel (because I had too) and I was fine. I want to go back to normal soon

Drink plenty of water during the day!!! I drink 100 ounces during the day, stopping at 630pm! Your pee should be clear

I cath 6 times per day or have a Foley catheter, and yes incontinence protection always, pullup or tape protection

I take a water bottle with me. So I always have water.

It could be both, I didn't see if you had seen your Gyno or PCP, I would, I see my Urology team every 6 mo for a checkup

@puja2006 it could be both? Do take care after a UTI, they can make you feel horrible for a while, Phil

I recommend seeing a psychiatrist or a PCP to get some anxiety medication since anxiety, not incontinence, is your problem.

You should see your clinic, and they will probably do as they do to me, insert a catheter and get a sample, and also see if you have urinary retention

I tried that, the dr gave me anti depressants.. made me really ill unfortunately.

Urinary retention is all good.. i do think it's more of an anxiety thing

I am sorry to hear that I hope you can find a suitable solution or at least a happy medium

Typical psychiatric solution: prescribe an anti-depressant when what you really need is an anti-anxiety (Ativan, Xanax, Valium, et al.). Sorry you got screwed.
