Antibiotics and urinary issues

Sorry for posting so much just have questions tonight. So I know antibiotics are known to screw up your bowels but what about bladder? Since being on high doses of iv antibiotics for 4 days I’ve noticed a change in my bladder. I get strong urges and then it just releases. Before I didn’t really have many urges but now I have them and then immediately have an accident. They are uncomfortable. Could this be from the antibiotics? For reference I have a paralyzed neurogenic bladder from a fall down an escalator. Thanks.

That isn't something I've ever had with antibiotics. Have you had other changes in your meds? Did they at anything besides the antibiotic while you were in the hospital?

Some hospitals have a number you can call and ask a nurse post-discharge questions. If they don't have that, perhaps a call to your urologist is in order.

What about what they gave you in-hospital? Did you get new meds, (besides those IVs?), whether just for the stay, or prescribed for after discharge, too? Hospitals often don't want you to take any medication you might already have, and don't want you to bring them in. So, did they not give you meds you normally take, or possibly a different med for the same thing? I've run into all that, plus they did not continue my regular meds for the stay, and tried to change my meds for after. (My regular Docs had to fix that.)

@snow you have a very good point re: opioids. I was getting Iv morphine the first two days in the hospital then random Oxys. I feel better today even though I have taken a couple oxy at home (I have a script for them from my pain management doctor. Now I’m back to just peeing myself without knowing it. Lol!

@justej Yep :) Also, I was remembering that when my dad took Vancomyosin for a couple of months, he was incontinent in every way. So there are a couple of reasons you could be experiencing these difficulties.

@snow oh good lord! I was given the highest dose every 8 hours for 4 days. Luckily it seems to have worn off and I’m back to my old flooding without warning. Lol
