Anal / Butt Plugs

I ordered a sample package of the Wellspect Navina plug. It’s a package of 5 standard and 5 large plugs with a manual chart.

For me this is the first time experimenting without consulting a doctor or nurse. A few years ago I did try another brand, it could be Peristeen but I am not 100% sure, under supervision of a continence nurse. She showed me how to use and what to expect so I am quite sure I am safe to use them.

The reason I try them is because I have limited feeling and control which means my bowel can get active at any time without being able to stop it. Often I reach the toilet on time but especially when going out I often feel insecure.
The anal plugs I used before were made of foam and blocked the sphincter due to expansion when inserted. The Wellspect plug is shaped like a mushroom and made of a silicone like material. Every plug is packed with an applicator that allows some pressure for insertion and it is very easy, much easier than inserting the foam plugs. A wider end makes sure it is not inserted too far and used to pull it out after use. Other than the foam plugs where only a string comes out, some soft silicone material is sticking out of the body. For me this is not a problem but others might feel it especially when sitting. Pulling it out is much easier than the foam plug which is a really big advantage.

Unlike the foam plugs my body quickly adapted to a foreign object inserted. They do what they intended to and for me they are actually very comfortable. It feels good not having to fear for a bowel accident and it relaxes my body in a way I almost forgot was possible. So most likely i will use them more often when going on a daytrip or other occasions when a toilet is not near.
Thanks for the information on the Navina plug, I’m glad it’s working out for you. Someone mentioned it could be found for sale on eBay, so I’m going to check it out. I think I recently mentioned it to my doctor and he said he hadn’t heard of it. Same doctor that said he didn’t recommend any of the others. I’m assuming I’ll have to have a prescription in order to purchase them. Are you located in the US? Also, do you know how expensive they are? If you’re in the USA & got samples, then I should be able to do that too!

I looked it up on EBay, costs about $20 each, it says it’s reusable, couldn’t believe that, do people really do that?

Hi, i live in Europe and in Germany they are available without prescription in a package of 30 for around 250 euro.

On the website it's mentioned single use.

Kinda ashamed to ask this, but due to the costs, do you think they could be reused if they were used with a covering, like a condom? Just my crazy thoughts

I have used both sizes just to test them how they work for when I go out for a day. After 12 hours of use they did not deform and the material still felt the same. In that regard I think there is no doubt they can be reused. I don’t know how often though, the material is quite thin, but on the other hand also very flexible. Main concern would be if it is possible to clean and disinfect them properly. Regardless of using a cover that has to be done anyway. The plugs come pre lubricated, but normal lube will do.

I appreciate your responses. Having tried both sizes, did you notice if one size did better than the other? Also, have you ever experimented with using a tampon? I’ve found & read a few reviews stating they were actually good for incontinence. I still haven’t tried them yet, but most likely will at some point. I have a stim implant currently , 5 years old, battery is dying down and will be replaced in a few weeks. New one is said to last 15 years. It helps, but not 100%.

Just rethinking about the costs, but getting 30 for around $250, still kinda high but not too awfully expensive, puts it at around $8.33 each. Plus if it could be reused at least once, would make it even better. I don’t think I would reuse them without a condom. For some reason, when I first read your post about the costs, I thought the individual costs was too expensive, but I didn’t take time to do the math. Do you plan to use them daily or just on certain occasions? Could you try one out with a condom & let me know how it goes? How does it feel while wearing one? Is it a little slippery around the opening of the anus, etc…, & what about releasing flatulence / gas?

I honestly can’t say which size is better for me, but I do feel the large plugs a bit more. I am occasionally bowel incontinent which is quite stressful. I can’t trust my body anymore for something everyone takes for granted. Feeling the aid that prevents emptying my bowel involuntarily gives me a feeling of protection which is a bit more profound with the bigger plugs.

My bowel movement is very unpredictable. Solid stool just starts moving slowly and I can't stop it. Rushing to the toilet does usually prevent a big mess but I have to reach the toilet within 1 or 2 minutes. Diarrhea is not possible for me to hold but luckily it doesn’t happen that often. When using the plugs, after a few hours my abdomen does feel bloated but I did not think for a moment my bowel would become active so that was very positive. Gas can still pass but in a gentle, quiet way. After taking out to plugs i had to go #2 within an hour which is manageable.

I have only tried anal tampons, Peristeen or another brand, I don't remember. Prescribed by my continence nurse. I am very reluctant to experiment with other options. Probably due to the feeling of not trusting my own body and feelings that i have ever since i became bladder incontinent 15 years ago. So I would not try a condom or anything else if not recommended by a nurse. Back then she told me any anal tampons are not meant to be used on a daily basis. They are for the days a bowel inflammation gets worse or when needing that extra security. I plan to do just that. Using them when I feel I need to and I know a toilet will not be near. I guess maybe 4 or 5 times a month. Due to my walking impairment I don't go out very much anyway. Anal tampons or plugs can cause hemorrhoids, sphincter damage or infections. When bowel incontinence gets so bad it happens on a daily basis I guess a stoma would be the best option.
