45 year old female experiencing infrequent night time accidents

Hi, new here, just looking for thoughts/advice whilst i wait to speak to my Dr. I'm 45 yrs old and never had an adult accident before October last year, since then it's happened 4 times, with the latest last night. I can't think of any common factors... i had a full blood works done recently for something else, which didn't flag any issues. There is not a lot, and I don't know it's happening, apart from once when it woke me up... 🤔

Yeah, I'm going to try to keep a diary and limit my fluids in an evening... and try not to stress! Although life is very stressful right now... thanks to the Covid-19 situation. Stay safe...

I wouldn’t stress to much over it at this time until getting with Dr. I would simply get a reusable bed pad to sleep on, you won’t even know it is there and you can rest assured that your mattress will be safe.

Hey Dexy10, Welcome fellow Brit!

Sorry to hear about your recent experiences and hope they go away as fast as they appeared. As others have said, it might be prudent to put some sort of protection on your bed. Ikea do cheaper terry topped mattress protectors with a waterproof barrier underneath. Quiet to sit and lay on and fairly discrete. It's good that you are going to keep a diary and I would recommend you stop drinking 2 hours before you plan to go to bed and make sure you go to the toilet when you do go. Are you constipated by any chance? That can have an effect on emptying the bladder fully. I wish you luck and keep us informed how you get on.

Thanks laalaauk...!

Funnily enough, I have been constipated... all out of sync with working from home, partner at home, and just moved house! Be interesting to see if that is a common theme if it happens again... I can't remember with the previous occasions unfortunately.

I would say that stress is probably the culprit in this circumstance. Try and drink some Camomile tea to relax you. Get some fresh lavender and put it in your lovely new bedroom. Hope you have a mattress protector and if this persists, please go to your GP and have some tests done to make sure there is nothing medical going on.

To Dexy 10 -- I'm probably the wrong one to give advice. I'm a male and also my symptoms seems be much different than everybodies on here. I have never had to use a catheter and have never had any problems with leakage. But from what I've read I would suggest reading up on OAB and certain meds can cause problems with urinary retention and cause leaks, injury or trauma can too. Also there is a huge link between constipation and bladder problems. The colon kinda nudges against the bladder and gives it like contraction or something, but there is a link between the two. How long has your constipation been going on? -- Good luck

Hi Dexy10 and welcome aboard! From reading everything I would also agree that stress may be the culprit. This is true especially with that gawd-awful Covid 19 going around. Everybody is stressed and your body is reacting to it. The suggestions of putting something on your bed are good to consider especially if this isn't a nightly occurrence. I would like to add to this discussion, though, have you had a urinalysis? I'm thinking more specifically of sugar. Do you have a family history of diabetes? That probably shouldn't be overlooked. You did say you had blood work done but I was wondering if those results included your glucose level.
I hope you find a lot of good information from us and do know this is a really cool, non-judgmental group and everyone here will be more than happy to answer any questions you have and we will figure out something together. :D

good luck.

and yeah. I think the kovid is affecting all of us in 1 way or another

Dexy10.... Ditto on what others said about being constipated... When my bedwetting came back awhile ago, two of the doctors I went to both asked about constipation. It definitely can be a cause. Also, did you have bedwetting issues as a kid? Is there a family history of bedwetting? In my case, I was a bedwetter until my teens and my father was also a bedwetter, so my doc's are leaning towards heredity and genetics.
