This is informative stuff, thanks for sharing.
I'm just beginning my journey down a road some of you have already traveled and your insight and real world experiences are so valuable.

I've been advised to get either the urolift or the rezume or something hot steam procedure.
After reading up on it all the urolift stapling seemed to be the least harmful for someone who was sexually active and this is the first I've read of the nerves being affected. With ss staples and fishing line shooting through the prostate it makes sense but I'm wondering for those of you that have had one of those procedures... would you do anything different if you had a do-over?

A couple of things to think about with the urolyft.
It did work well for several years but as you grow older and the prostate continues to enlarge the results do diminish.
But I would probably do it again as I did have side affects from the alternative medication.
Even though the external side of the system does affect the nerve bundles I had other things going on as well so it wasn't all related to the urolyft.
My urologist never mentioned the potential effect it might have if I needed a prostatectomy so it might be worth discussing with your Doc.
Or a urologist surgeon if he isn't one.

I had the REZUM steam procedure about 2 years ago and it went well for me.

I requested general anesthesia which made it non-traumatic and painless for me. The doctor said, "It is embarrassingly simple to do". It takes less than 5 minutes to complete, but of course with general anesthesia there is the prep and recovery time.

In my case he only used 2 shots of steam. Your mileage may differ.

He said the benefits should get better with time. So far that has been true: better stream and virtually no pain unless I wait too long to void.

@thudson1965,

After looking at the URL you provided for "Urolift", I don't like what I see. The REZUM method actually removes prostate tissue, whereas the Urolift method constricts the prostate. Because the prostate will continue to grow, I would be anxious about what happens over time.

Thank you Thudson1965 for separating this topic and other guys for chiming in.

Evidently the urolift staples can be snipped and removed if there's a need to do that, and it's possible to go back and add more later if it closes up..

I was leaning towards that- since removing tissue by cutting, burning or cooking could be done later if the lift failed.
It seems like a less invasive and traumatic first step procedure to me, up until fairly recently me and my prostate were getting along just fine!

Of course I'll check with the uro to actually be sure it wouldn't limit my future options. That's a good point.

The real world info related here has been so helpful in understanding what may be ahead of me. I have it good compared to many of you.
A sincere thank you to those who have shared their challenges and successes!

I had the Urolift procedure done apporx 3 yrs ago. It was not the most painful thing I've experienced but it definitely hurt. DR enter through the tip of the penis and as described puts "rings" in to "hold back" the prostate.
The installation unit make as click sound when DR clamps the ring. This is the part the I felt the most. Local anesthetics (I was awake)
Had a catheter in for 24 hrs returned next day to office they removed and had me urinate to be sure things were working ok. I had the procedure done on a Thursday afternoon and went back to work the following Tuesday with a restriction on lifting weight.
Took about a week or so to not have pain (discomfort)Also in the week or so I had blood in my urine. They told me this was normal.
Without trying to be overly graphic. I ejaculate I would say about 3-4 weeks after the procedure, that hurt really bad. In fact it hurt so bad I was afraid to try it again for quite awhile--I want to say the next time I had the courage to try maybe 4 months? That was better. Even in current time I have soreness for 1/2 day(?)after ejaculating. Not overbearing but just uncomfortable.
As far as my conditions. The ultra sounds for my uroflow test showed I was retaining significant less urine after urinating then before the procedure. I notice my discharge was like a fire hose instead of a laser beam. It did not cure my urge incontinence and I still have to were protection 24/7.
I am starting to see some issues again will be having both a scrotal ultrasound and not sure of the name but he will be "televising" my urethrae, bladder, and will supposedly be able to view the urolift/prostate to see where I am, at the end of may. Right now I have pain in my testicals and up both side of my penis (pain is in my body not in my penis). I have also noticed my stream is getting flat in shape again, doesn't seem to be a strong and I am dribbling in my pants again. Sometimes I can feel dribbling 5-10 minutes after I have urinated. Sometimes I can feel what I call "squirts" not dribbles but more like a small stream. Hard to put into words but if you've ever felt it you know what I am trying to describe.
Urologist told me most men see improvement for 4-5 years before having to address prostate issues again. So at 3 years if this is a problem again I will be premature in the failure.
I will say, I don't remember asking or him saying, it would only help for 4-5 yrs. I was disappointed when he said that last week at my appointment.
Sorta funny side note. I have to fly 3-4 times a year (give or take) for my job and the 1st time I went through the air port scanner (the one where you stand with your arms over your head, in the glass "bubble" ) when I walked out I glanced at the screen and saw my privates were lit up red. I thought oh here we go my diaper is going to be a problem, this is going to be embarrassing. Forgetting all about the metal that is now in my prostate. They waved over my with the a wand and sent my through. It wasn't until the return trip home and I was lit up again down there that it hit me, duh I've got metal in there!
I will try to keep you all up to date as to the final outcome over the next couple of months. Maybe it will help someone make a informed decision.
Keeping in mind of course one persons experience with a medical procedure can be quite different than another's have the same procedure.
