trying to fit premium diapers in your budget sucks

ive been running numbers all day trying to figure out how im going to fit confidry or betterdry into my budget. i was told if i get my leg amputated that my disability will go up. but my rent is based on my disability and if that goes up my rent goes up. ugh. im going to get some money from doing a website for a friend but it sucks to use any extra money i get for diapers. being incontinent sucks.

I agree, they make better products and they work great but then there is that part we all have to pay for them.. like that is an option. Sorry you are in that pickle right now. Glad your friend is letting you do a site for them though. Every little bit helps.

@justej I agree. I could probably go on disability, but I'm worried I wouldn't have enough money.

You know people need certain things to live a dignified life. Toilet paper, Feminine hygiene products and for some of us absorbent garments. It shouldn't have to be a financial struggle to have decent diapers.

I know this does not help your financial situation, but I did find a whole case of Dry 24/7 in a Goodwill once. I usually scope them out, but that's the best. I do frequently see good runner ups (Abena, tranquility). You might also try checking Craigslist. One or two good scores might save you some money.

The Goodwill and Salvation Army stores have scored me some great deals on briefs and such over the last several years. That was a great suggestion.

I’ve searched Craigslist and some of the local thrift shops from time to time but it seems I can’t find my size or the style is wrong. It’s just so disappointing to have to decide between diaper/supplies and other necessities!! Maybe it’s time we all band together and find a way to bring our struggles to the government and try to find a way to force the insurance companies to help us with our needs!! I’m going to write my Congress and ask for there help, has anyone else tried this approach?

If you go through xpmedical, they offer free shipping on cases and a 5% discount for auto-shipment. So, I get Betterdrys from them at a cost of $94.99 for a case of 60. It equals $1.58/diaper. They are rated for 12 hour use, but let's say you use 3 per day. That is a cost of $4.75/day. This is based on size large and mediums are slightly cheaper. If you need protection you are paying at least something for the "cheap" brands. Looking on Amazon, Depend w/ tabs range between $0.90-$1.16/diaper (before shipping costs). So for roughly $0.50 more each, you can get a premium diaper. I know every penny counts, but spending less than $5/day for premium diapers isn't too bad in the scheme of things.

As for as the medical insurance including diapers...speak to someone overseas and they can tell you how much their government diapers suck.

I don't want to dissuade you, but you might want to start with your city/state resources. I have called my local congressman for assistance, but they are quick to let you know they can only do so with federal issues. Have you checked in with any local diaper banks? They might be able to help you out, but then again they may be more for emergency situations than a constant supply. Good luck!

Great suggestions but ya I e tried both the local diaper banks and local government agencies and neither are able to help. It’s really a shame this need isnt taken seriously by the health care world or government. It’s such an important piece of ones mental health if your incontinent that you’d think it would be pushed harder to help those in need for supplies. I’ve even tried to start a local diaper bank or support system for local needs but no one will donate towards it. Most companies say if the need is that great then they should be in a nursing home or Medicare should take care of them. People just don’t understand or maybe don’t care. Very frustrating!!

Hi Pete,
Thanks for trying. It really is sad that they don’t get it. Normally until it happens to them and then they are too embarrassed to try to make a change in the policy to help out. I am glad at least there are resources like NAFC and even everyone here. Just reading down through allot of the posts lately since I am new to the boards, what folks have to say, and share, and advice is worth its weight in gold.
When I started reading here, a sense of relief came over me like imagine that, here are other folks with the same issues. I know when the resource guides came out I called just about ever company and asked for samples and most were more than happy to get their product in front of the end user. Best idea ever. Up until maybe last year I never heard of a diaper bank so not sure what that is all about but sure seems like a smart idea. I love just being able to do life and have others I can talk with who are dealing with the same things. Thanks everyone.

Oh, one question. How do I make my profile pic right side up? I tried to take a photo with my phone and upload it the other day and well. I’m a little off...lol

I use overnight diapers that I order from Walgreens online I pay approximately $100 per month. .Tina pull ups work best for me.
