Switching to cloth prefold diapers from disposables

Hello everyone! This will he my first post so here we go. A little backstory: I'm 31 years old and have been a bedwetter almost all of my life. I've wore diapers pretty much my whole life. I will also wear during the day for comfort rather than need practically keeping myself in diapers 24/7. I do have a weak bladder so they are great backup protection during the day for me to.

Where I'm at now is I wear day and night, even when at work. My main diaper of choice has been the Peekabu diaper from ABUniverse. I know it's an ABDL diaper, but it checks all of my boxes for a really good quality plastic-backed disposable diaper. They are also nostalgic for me. They fit right, absorbstion is great and with them being a higher quality disposable, I roughly wear two a day so value wise it works out for me.

However, I've been reading and seeing a lot more post on various forums here lately about other's trying to make the switch to cloth diapers from disposables. I've researched and realized cloth prefold diapers might be a way for me to go so I can reduce my costs and be more environmentally friendly compared to my current disposable diapers. I didn't realize how much diaper waste contributed to Landfills and wanted to cut back my disposable diaper use. So basically if anyone cares to share their experiences with switching and using cloth diapers I'd love too hear from it so I can try to wrap my head things better.

Thanks, and sorry for the long post!

I tried cloth a long time ago. It is a lot of work in my opinion. The initial cost is steep. If you have your own washer and dryer it may not be so bad. But your water bill is gonna take a hit. I didn’t like the way they felt on my skin when wet and bowel stuff is a nightmare. I suppose for me it just wasn’t worth having to do all the laundry etc. I’m also a wheelchair user and rely on home health aides to help with laundry so that was a factor for me that may not be for you. I’d suggest trying a couple and see if it works for you before investing in an inventory.

Thank you for your advice! I was thinking starting with a couple or few would be a good idea to start. What type and brand did you try when you did wear cloth?

I bought some pocket diapers from someone on another forum. I think they were Ecoables. I also had gotten a couple of pre folds from adultclothdiaper.com. I struggled with pinning them on, though. It seems to be an acquired skill!

These are the ones I got:

I’ve worn diapers literally my whole life and likewise have a neurogenic bladder. I grew up being pinned into my nightime dipers by my mom. Pulled on my plastic pants nd my mom would tuck in all the edges. As I remember I objected daytime diapers in the 3rd grade and was allowed to wear thick training type underwear with plastic pants during the day. Initially led to many pant leaks and my mom said I’d have to go back to diapers. I loudly protested crying I didn’t want to so as I got better at getting to a bathroom when I first started leaking I was saved from wearing huge cloth diapers to school that were very obvious under my pants. Anyway cloth with plastic pants is what I’ve stayed in at night my whole life as they do a better job keeping the sheets dry for a side sleeper like me. Daytimes I stick to quality disposables with a booster. Better dry, Abena m4, Seni super quatro ( for warmer weather) all do a pretty good job during the day but again the diaper bulge from those is very noticeable. The wet disposables with a booster get pretty swelled up when wet but still not like the cloth. So basically I’m a mixed user. I know a lot of people push mega max but I never had great luck wearing them. I’m pretty thin, a guy with a 31” waist, and I’d get leaks from mega before the diaper is even 1/2 used.
